J 01 Mr. Richard D. Jolly 16 To one who has inspired us to learn, di- rected us to act, and gained our friendship with patience, understanding, and integrity ... a teacher, an advisor, a friend . . . one ex- ceptional in his counsel, outstanding in his field, the head of a department, an interested and dedicated man . . . conscientious, aspiring and loyal . . . transmitting ideas and ideals, receptive and attentive to every individual problem ... his work, the exemplified ideal of a teacher ' s dedicated interest in his stu- dents . . . the contributions of one man valued by all. For these qualities and accomplishments, to you, MR. JOLLY, we dedicate The 1 967 Quad- rangle. 19 As the Year Began . . . The new students arrived, as they had in previous years, with new clothes, instructions from home to write often, aspirin for early head- aches, and most important, high expectations. The first few days were filled with the drudgery of placement tests and the aspirin probably came in handy, but to offset these there were dances and teas to attend, and lots of new people to meet and friends to make. Linda Lyle gets help hanging her curtains. Registration ... the long Wait. Lines! Lines! Lines! Would they never end? Instructions to check again with your advisor, and— back to the end of the line. Check with Dean Harwell, and— lose your place in line. Eventually the end was in sight, and with mussed hair and tired smiles— What? for the first time pictures were taken as you finished. Expressions were forced into the camera, and Snap! Snap!, Snap! Just like that you find yourself securely in your classes, and, months later, smiling triumphantly from the pages of THE QUADRANGLE. Line after line after line. Students fill out News Service Cards. A week to Remember You dirty, filthy rat! Eat your Cheese! and squeak, rat, squeak, just like a stupid rat! Anxieties, frustrations, tears, hidden laughter, and one threadbare old rat cap to long remind you of that dreadful week. Greeks Entertain Freshmen There have been months of preparation: Themes to choose; the Moose Club to reserve; costumes to make; entertainments to practice. The freshmen approach the parties with excitement and antici- pation. Rush— a part of real college life. Spirit! Soul! Decision. Rushees entertain at AK0 party. The Rushees are about to witness an Alpha Phi Bullfight. 27 Addition Indicate Progress New additions to our campus buildings came, first, in the form of a language laboratory and air conditioning in Manget. Later in the year, the Student Center underwent a badly needed redecoration. Many students enjoy comfort of the New Student Center between classes. 28 Homecoming ' 66 Homecoming took place on November 6, this year. The Whole day was filled to the brim with anticipation. In the morning alumni returned, with the classes of in reunion. In the early afternoon the Homecoming Court was presented. Cheryl Coggin was crowned Queen and Emily Tillman reigned as her maid of honor. Later in the day each organization presented a float in a parade cen- tered upon the theme, The Magic of Shakespeare , and afterwards various members of the Drama Department performed in The Taming of the Shrew . Homecoming candidates Mary Bowie and Pam Burch look over pictures just prior to the crowning of the Queen. Nervous candidates await judging. The Villagers Entertain The Long Day culminated with a dance in the gymnasium with The Villagers and The Cries of London providing the entertainment. Winners of the float competition were announced at intermission and Sigma Nu Pi won again with Alpha Phi Beta taking second and Pi Delta Kappa having the best car. The Villagers Entertain. President and Mrs. Henry Join in the Homecoming festivities. 32 33 Junior Class Won Again! Stunt Night, that is. Their pantomime was a tribute to college life here at LaGrange. Other performances in- cluded the freshmen take-off on a Southern Negro Community, the Seniors ' skit concerning the family life of Reynolds Greene, and the Sophomores enacting some legendary happenings on the college campus. The Choralaires present a program of carols at the Hanging of the Greens. Christmas came suddenly this year. There it was one .light, beckoning to us from behind the maze of study for finals. There was a rush to finish the wreaths for the Hanging of the Greens, and trees were swiftly erected in the various dorms for parties. Finally, it was here: Hark the herald c. igels shout; NO MORE DAYS, and we ' ll be out ... Dr. AAcCook reminds us all of the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas brings Cheer Many voices Join the carol. Every campus organization hung a 38 Exams! Everyone dreads them, hates them, looks upon them as a menace to— what? Grades. Drink that coffee! Take those dex! Smoke those puffs! and finally, after many hours, many yawns and much cram- ming they ' re over. What ' s up for the holidays? Visitors to Our Campus Assembly has provided the student body with several different forms of entertainment this year, although the maximum number of cuts still remained at three per quarter. One of the most outstanding was Paul Anderson who demonstrated his feats of strength by lift- ing weights, and People! Among other outstanding visitors to our campus this year were gubernatorial candidate Howard Bo Callaway and Reverend Turley, the Chaplain from the Milledgeville State Hos- pital. Paul Anderson Demonstrates his strength by lifting six L.C. boys and a table off the ground. Reverend Turley discusses sex and views of Christianity with an overflow crowd of L.C. students in the Formal Parlor. 40 Drama Presentation Outstanding This Year A year of successful plays started during the sum- mer with a Drama Workshop presenting Melodramas at Callaway Gardens. With Fall Quarter, work was begun on The Taming of the Shrew , and later, Mister Roberts , which was presented early in Winter Quarter. This was followed by the productions of Becket , and A spring musical. Hours of work go into building the scenery for each production. Mr. Roberts 42 This year the Quadrangle sponsored a concert featuring the New Christy Minstrels. They were a spirited group! Perhaps it was this factor that made the night so successful. During the intermission the Quadrangle Court was presented and the Queen— Chris McLaughlin was crowned. 45 With the last toss of a faded pair of cut-offs into a full suitcase Spring comes and the year ends. It all passed quickly . . . water battles, parties on the mountain, Winter quarter, Biology 102, even nights in the dorm, even PBR. 47 Spudzy Ascher, layout editor; AAaria Saltos, typist; Cathy Funke, Cover design, Helen Reid, typist; Andrew Cox, general staff; Susan Galloway, organizations; copy editor; Doug Hatch, general staff. La GRANGE COLLEGE BOOK STORE Headquarters on The Hill for All Your College Needs The end of another year with The Quadrangle has finally come. And at the end of this, my second year as editor, I ' d like first to pass on a little advice to any future editors-NEVER, NEVER do it twice! But it has been fun! Despite the broken cameras, bad film, lost pictures, missed deadlines, trips to Montgomery, adopted dogs and a late baby horse, we did manage to get it all finished. I ' d like to thank my staff as a whole for all their help and encouragement. I won ' t take time to thank them all individually now. They all know how much I appreciate them. All I can say now is that I hope you enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed doing it. 214 TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY The World ' s Best Yearbooks Are Taylor-made
