CINCUSNAVEUR - Congratulations to the entire L Y SPEAR crew on the completion of an outstanding and historic deployment. As one of the first submarine tenders to deploy in direct support of surface ships your cruise broke new ground and has reinforced the One Navy concept. SPEAR'S numerous BZs from ships tended attests to just how well you adjusted from single mission sub tender to amphib, minesweeper and destroyer tender. Working from exotic and remote locations such as Bahrain, Jebel Ali, Mina Sulman and Kuwait you provided over 40 alongside availability working everything from Diesel engine changeouts to habitability packages. In addition, L. Y. SPEAR assisted with the salvage of an FXA-18, supplied diving support for the MSO heavy lift and provided the only cal- ibration services in the region. Your efforts have helped produce an excellent state of readiness in the U.S. Mideast Force and clearly reflect the hard work and high state of training of your crew, as well as the excellent material readiness of your equipment.
