Dedication The Senior Class of 1969-1970 takes pride in dedicating this yearbook to a person who is loved and admired by all. We regard this person as one who has worked endlessly and untiringly to carry out his works and the works of others. He is an example of one who uwalks with dignity. We have long considered him a master of com- petence and a paragon of patience in the demanding task of teaching music and being the Senior Coordinator, and, most of all, we have admired him as a person. Mr. Roy Edward Hicks was born January 14, 1931. He attended Carver Elementary School at McGregor, Texas and completed his junior and senior high school years at B. K. Bruce High School, Gilmer, Texas, where he graduated as class valedictorian at the age of 14. He attends St. James AME Temple. Mr. Hicks received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Paul Qriinn C.ollege and his Master of Arts degree from Prairie View A8zM College. He has done further study at both North Texas State and Southern Methodist Uni- versities. He is a member of DMEA, TMEA, MENC, and State and Na- tional Choir Directors Associations. He has taught for 21 years in Texas. As you open this volume Mr. Roy Edward Hicks, we trust that you will find its contents not only comprehensive but complete. We beseech you to accept this 1970 edition of the HVIKINGM as our humble way of thanking you for being as good and dedicated as you are. As we enter this phase of life where there is no return to high school, and our last days are almost here, we would like to acknowledge to you the thought that our hearts are with you for HYou,ll Never Walk Alone. The Editors Speak Franklin Throughout one's course of life there are moments, whether they are happy or sorrow- ful, that should be reflected upon and even re- lived. Such moments as .high school are quite cherishable. We, the staff of the VIKING yearbook, have made it our utmost desire to capture a small portion of those precious moments. We would like to acknowledge our appre- ciation to Mr. Roy E. Hicks for his increased devotion to the task which has enabled us to complete and publish this third edition of the VIKING.7' We would also thank the photography staff for their cooperation and concern in seeing that our book was a success. Also, we are grateful to the faculty and our cproud' student bodyf I, as editor, would like to express my deep- estyappreciation to the members of my grad- uating class for electing me to serve as edi- tor-forthis year's edition. I hope that each page will bring back old memories to some and new experiences to others. Franklin McCloud Editor-In-Chief 5, Sharon This hook has been prepared just for you by all of us. We hope that you enjoy and keep it as a memento of your high school life. Students have been caught in their moments of glory and they can say that aa moment of pleasure is a lifetime treasuref Great results cannot be achieved at once, and we must be satisfied with the advancement we make in life during the long run. We shall, one day, look back into the past and remem- ber the prestige and fun of onels school days at L. G. P. I We should not forget what the inventive genius, Thomas Edison, said: uThe three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work, second, stick-to-it-ivenessg third, common sense.
