Such moments as .high school are quite cherishable. We, the staff of the VIKING yearbook, have made it our utmost desire to capture a small portion of those precious moments. We would like to acknowledge our appre- ciation to Mr. Roy E. Hicks for his increased devotion to the task which has enabled us to complete and publish this third edition of the VIKING.7' We would also thank the photography staff for their cooperation and concern in seeing that our book was a success. Also, we are grateful to the faculty and our cproud' student bodyf I, as editor, would like to express my deep- estyappreciation to the members of my grad- uating class for electing me to serve as edi- tor-forthis year's edition. I hope that each page will bring back old memories to some and new experiences to others. Franklin McCloud Editor-In-Chief 5, Sharon This hook has been prepared just for you by all of us. We hope that you enjoy and keep it as a memento of your high school life. Students have been caught in their moments of glory and they can say that aa moment of pleasure is a lifetime treasuref Great results cannot be achieved at once, and we must be satisfied with the advancement we make in life during the long run. We shall, one day, look back into the past and remem- ber the prestige and fun of onels school days at L. G. P. I We should not forget what the inventive genius, Thomas Edison, said: uThe three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work, second, stick-to-it-ivenessg third, common sense. Pinlcston High School SENI R CLASS President Vice-President Secretary Assistant Secretary Treasurer Parliamentarian OF 1970 OFFICERS Grisby Baker ,Iacquelyn Burns Fernando Lopez Ollie Hamilton Anita Kazee Lonnie Hall Message From Our President For the Senior Class, I would like to say just a few words in tribute to the staff of this our third edition of the VlKlNG,' Yearbook. I realize that there have been some trying days for the annual staff, but, re- member this old proverb: Labor has a bitter root but a sweet tastef' For me it has been a great challenge as well as a privilege to be president of such a wonderful class. To many, this annual will work as a mirror of the past. To some it will be a book of entertaining moments captured in print. But, to me, it will serve as a com- bination of both. Grisby Baker, President X, s Mr. President ' 9 'Q Class History The L. G. Pinkston High School Senior Class of 1970 came from many places. From all over the city we came, but predominantly from Arlington Park, Fred Douglas, C. F. Carr, George Washington Carver, Sidney Lanier and Thomas Edison Elementary Schools. There is where we got our beginnings and we are very grate- ful for the efforts that all our elementary school teachers made to help us along the way. The real senior class got its beginning in September, 1967. The 5 year and 4 year homerooms were introduced to the-Sequoyah Junior High School freshmen which resulted in the best of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes the Pinkston High School will ever see. The Seniors of '70 have many outstanding leaders. Among them are: Grisby Baker lSr. Class Pres.J, Frank lVlcCloud fstuflent Council Presl., Fernando lopez fNational Honor Society Pres.J, Linda Watson KFTA Pres.J, Sharon Hall lUshers and Library Club Pres.J, Carolyn Harrison fpublic Speaking Society Pres.J, An- thony Petty CDrama Club Pres.J, Elbert Gills fConcert Choir Pres.J, Gwendolyn lVlcCarther CVogue Vikings Pres.J, Jacqueline Burns fPUB Pres.l, Arthur Hender- son tProblems of Democracy Club Pres.J, Franklin McCloud tEditor-in-chief, Year- bookJ, and Jackie Burns and Fernando Lopez are Newspaper Editors. We have leaders in the athletic department, also. Among these are: Ernie Mitchell, Leonard Clemons, and Calvin SimsHBasketball Captainsg James Ed- wards-Baseball Captain, Audrey Warren-Tennis Captain, Lewis Standfield- Golf Captain, and Jesse Mauricio-Swim Team Captain. There are many unsung heroes and heroines in the class of '70, They have all contributed greatly to the success of the school and the class. We hope that in some way, we have helped and not hindered. We have great hopes for L. G. Pinkston, and we are, also, going to do our best to make Pinkston proud of us. Good luck to the future senior classes, for we know we are the best of the 'gbestw senior classes. May our footsteps never be forgotten for we will never forget where we have trod. 9':Paets ' Corner? Onward stretches the narrow road Ever binding in each our livesg We, at last, feel we've made it After many hard and grueling tries. The end has come, as come it must To all things, work and fun. Our teachers have given us their trust And now the world we must try to run. We donit look back, but gain courage from The road we've traveled thus farg Eager to let the whole world see The type of class we really are. And as we travel this narrow road We shall do our very best To plant memories our teachers will hold And cling to and say, They were the best. by Maggie Armstrong Together we stand, divided we fall But fall as it must be, Let the splendor and the excitement Leave many a happy memory. The years have seemed hard, Temptations of giving up stood in our way. Onward we have trod- Ever resisting-trying to stay. Never forget the good old days Where we have been gifted with the surroundings of love With the delightful concern of our teachers and others We have taken one step above. As we depart our cherished high school With its uwelcomen mat unfurled, We have surpassed the lonelines of life And we are ready to go out into the world. by Marcha Baker xrb- ,,.g,,g ' ' ' l . If I should lose, let me stand by the side of the road, and cheer as winners go by. A- Viking-First: All-American-Charles Donnell Williams We, here at Pinkston, are extreme- ly honored to have one of our alumni reach the heights attained by one of our graduates. This is a feather in our coaches' caps, and they are justly proud. Charles is an example of what can happen to a young man who lives clean, studies hard and practices diligently. Charles, an All-American split end for Prairie View this past season, was the second round draft choice of the Philadelphia Eagles. Charles graduated Pinkston in 1965. While in high school he showed the same potential as he showed at Prairie View. We are proud to claim him as a Son of Pinkstonn and wish for him great success.
