The 1979 High School Bowling League had a very successful year. The League was composed of six teams, they were: The Sears Diehards, The Olsen Boys Ramchargers, Bruno’s Bowlers, Commercial National Bank, State Wide Real Estate and K-Bit-C. Head to head competition started in January and ran for eleven weeks. At the end of the season, the Commercial National Bank team of Karen Bemrose, Lynn Sleep, Joe Anderson, Doug Loosemore and Don Holso (Capt.) were the champions. Trophies were presented at the awards assembly. Also recognized at the awards assembly were: The Sears Diehards- composed of Donna Veker. Bradley Dakota, Shelly Jestila, Ron Whitman and Mike Bourdo (Capt.) as the runner-up team; Chris Swartz with High Average; Shelly Jestila High Girls Average; Most Improved Bowler- Dave Merritt; Most Improved Girl Bowler-Robynn Lambert- Trophies for high games and series were given and seven bowlers were recognized for perfect attendance. 23

We won’t mention the fact that they lost to Baraga for the first time since 1962. The team tied for the Superior-Six Conference title with Ironwood. Six Hornets were named to the All-Conference teams. Taking first team honors were Doug Loosemore, Bob Tollefson and Dan White. Second team honors went to Mike Lanctot, Bob Selden and Kelly Selden. The Junior Varsity should also be recognized for doubling their number of games won. Who knows-next year they might win three games. 25
