They defeated both Hancock and Ontonagon to win the crown. The end of the season came when the Negaunee Miners beat L’Anse by a 67-60 score in the opening round of regional play. The honors earned in 1978-79 were numerous. The new Superior-Six Conference had three Hornets adorning the All-Confer- ence first team. They were Scott Lloyd, Bob Tollefson and Dan White. Earning All-Upper Peninsula honors: Lloyd and Tollefson, first team; and White, honorable mention. The Hornet team was tabbed “Team of the Year” and Coach Ed Sirard was deemed “Coach of the Year” by the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters. Coach Sirard also earned special honor statewide as did both Lloyd and Tollefson. Although eight seniors are being lost to graduation this year, chances are the team of 1979-80 will be strong enough to post another winning season for LHS. 19

The Hornet cagers ran up a record that was bettered only by a Hornet team of over a decade ago. The streak ran to 19-0 prior to the final regular season game at Westwood High, which broke the string of victories. 18
