Roberts, Mgr., and Coach Ed Sirard. The 1976 Varsity Hornets completed the basketball season with a fine 14-8 record. The team placed second in the Copper Country Conference Division II and boasted its second highest scorer as well. He was senior guard Steve Tollefson, who fired in 435 points in the regular season. This, added to his total from three previous varsity years, gave him a grand total of 1,174 career points, making him the third player in LHS history to top the 1,000 point plateau. Tollefson was also elected to the first team CCC and the All-U.P. team. Other grad- uating members were D. Martinac, who was elected to the second team CCC and given honorable mention for All-U.P., M. Anderson and M. McDonald. They will be missed but Coach Sirard has hopes that those return- ing, along with those moving up from the JV's will make the Hornets Number 1 in the 1977-78 campaign. 20

JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM MEMBERS: STANDING, L to R: Coach Jerry Bugni, S. Foucault, S. Lloyd, M. Delene, B. Selden, J. Selinger, J. Kangas, and J. Wentela. KNEELING: J. Selden, J. Fedie, K. Selden, A. Taipalus, D. Shann, and M. Elmblad. The Hornet JV'S made it known throughout the area that the Varsity Hornets are going to be the team to beat in the 1977-78 season. They finished their year with an excellent 16-2 record, their losses being to Ewen-Trout Creek and Westwood. The team won the JV Tournament for the second year in a row by defeating Houghton in their opener and Ontonagon in the finals. If this year's freshman players stay strong, together with the upcoming Jr. High talent, there is little doubt about another JV Title being captured by LHS in the near future. 21
