However, Coach Niemela noted that the sopho- more standouts will probably add the extra punch for the varsity next season. He also predicted that this year's freshmen will be much improved with a year's experience and he looks forward to a much better season in 1977.

Lanczy, and S. Lloyd. R 3: Asst. Coach Jerry Bugni, S. Dillon, D. Kent, B. Roberts, R. Kemppainen, R. Kissel, S. Tollefson, L. For- cia, C. Sholander, D. White, and Coach Ed Sirard. The '76 Hornets celebrated the bicentennial by compiling an 8-1 record. Especially memorable were the 15-6 victory over Hancock and the 21-6 loss to Forest Park, both games being decided in the 4th quarter. Along with a fine record, the varsity could boast about its honor winning players. R. Tollefson, C. Summers, R. Kissel, R. Kemppainen, D. Kent, M. McDonald, R. Fedie, and S. Tollefson were named to the All-Conference Teams. S. Tollefson was selected as All-U.P. quarterback by the U.P. sportswriters and sportscasters, and M. McDonald was selected for the All-U.P. defensive team. Also earning honorable mention for All-U.P. were: D. Kent, R. Kissel, R. Kemppainen, S. Dillon, and R. Fedie. S. Tollefson also earned honorable mention for All-State quarterback. 14

PowVi '76 . . . The Hornettes enjoyed a 17-3 season, were the Copper Country Con- ference Division II champs, won the district tournaments, but lost to Norway in the regional finals, 49-45. Senior guard Karen Marquardt was named to the first team All-Con- ference and All-U.P., she was also the team's high scorer with a 14.8 average. Coach Carol Seavoy was selected U.P. Class 'C' Coach of the Year. Also receiving post-season honors were Kay Lanctot, selected All- U.P. and Terri Flaa, second team All-Conference. Along with Mar- quardt, Lanctot, and Flaa, other graduating seniors include S. Bol- ton, Sh. Daust, A. McPhillips, P. Selden, and G. Stroube. Standing tall and proud, the Hornettes pose for their team portrait, L. to R., G. Jokinen, T. Flaa, Susie Daust, Sharon Daust, G. Stroube, S. Bolton, A. Edwards, K. Lanctot, P. Selden, P. Miron, T.
