AN EDUCATION. What is it? Webster’s Dictionary defines it thus: the sys- tematic training of the intellectual faculties.” Does this help you understand it? Prob- ably not, for education is intangible, something you can’t quite put your finger on. It is a combination of three factors: teaching, learning, and doing. The duty of teaching falls upon the shoulders of the adults around us, not only the teachers, but also our parents and others with whom we come in contact. It is their responsibility to see that we are educated properly. The next factor, learning depends on us—how much we are going to learn and about what we are going to learn. We should always take advantage of the opportunity to learn, especially while we are young. The third factor depends upon the first two. How well we have been taught, and how well we have learned, determines how well we will do things, whether we shall achieve great, mediocre, or minor success in our lives. The standard of excellence of both the faculty and curriculum at our school clearly point out that L'Anse High School has seen us develop INTELLECTUALLY. —22—
