JJ ornet (l cidLetLu After getting off to a slow start, the Hornets proved themselves to be the spoilers of the Copper Country Conference, defeating many highly ranked teams who were hoping to reign as champions of the conference, such as Houghton, whom we defeated by the score of 60-58, and Dollar Bay, who was stung by the Hornets to the buzz of 70-68. After being low man in the Keweenaw Bay rivalry, for several years, Baraga rose up and defeated the Hornets 65 to 48 and 68 to 61, and then proceeded to go on and win the conference championship. L'Anse was the spoiler this year, but next year we’ll be one of the top contenders for the championship. Kneeling: Coach Maule. “B” Baled, Jl earn As usual, our B Squad had a very good record this year, compiling a record of 12 wins and 3 losses. Playing junior varsity teams from throughout the Copper Country, they ve shown people that they re going to be tough as a varsity team in the next few years. The purpose of the B Team is to enable Freshmen and Sophomores, who would usually sit on the bench of a varsity squad, to see real-game action. Mr. Maule, the B team coach, gives his players the same rigorous training that they will be having when they try out for the varsity squad a year or two later. In—or out?
