The Secretarial Course Two years ago our school began offering secretarial courses for those who desire to serve the Lord's cause through Christian secretarial work as church secretaries and other positions requiring knowledge ol Scripture. Bible Doctrine, and Christian service. This past year the full list of secretarial courses was offered. Typing, Shorthand, and Business English were taught by Mr. Gerrit l. Buistl and Bookkeeping and Office Technique were taught by Mr. jack Stoepker Qboth part-time teachersj. Concerning his subjects, Mr. Buist writes: Shorthand, typing and Business English are the subjects taught in this course during evening classes. The first two are valuable skills that can be inastered only by persistent application. Through neglect their usefulness may quickly be lost. But constant, painstaking prac- tice has its rewards. There is scarcely any greater satisfaction than that derived from doing our daily work well. Business English is, of course, of basic importance. It aims to teach the student to express himself siniply, directly and forcefully in business writings. Without a knowledge of good usage, connnon errors in speech and writing would increase and our language would lose its clarity. The use of the right word is i1.ecessa1'y. To be able to say what we mean it is essential that our nzeanizzg be clear. Whenever good words are put to a bad use. whether purposely or through igno- rance, harm and confusion result. lt is a privilege to teach at the R. B. I., and to note the progress made by the students through diligent application. Above all. it is gratifying to feel that the work of Christian inissions is effectively being advanced by the training afforded by this school. May the Lord continue to bless it, and cause it to be a blessing. Sincerely yours, CZERRIT I. BUIST Page Sezfenty-seven

Evening Classes at The Reformed Bible Institute For two evenings each week the parking lot at the Reformed Bible Institute is like the parking lot of a large shopping center. One can see row upon row of cars from all over Grand Rapids and vicinity. The cloak room is packed and the halls are crowded. Yes, it is a busy place, but a very happy one. Cheery greetings are ex- changed as we slip from one class to anotherg everyone seems to be in the same spirit. Everyone is there for the same purpose for we have spiritual larders that must be stocked regularly, and this is the center in which we can find just what we need. XVe come with the assurance that our minds and hearts will be enriched in our evening classes, but we must hasten to get there on time or we may not have a choice seat. IVC may have to settle for a folding chair sandwiched in somewhere because seating room is really at a premium. Of course, the Sunday School teachers are anxious to acquire the best prepara- tion for their responsible assignment. and where can that be found any better than at the Reformed Bible Institute? Christian doctrine is important to every progressive Christian. therefore. it is pursued here with diligence. The Bible. book by book study. not only strengthens ai . u ea s o grea er apprecia ion o e eau y anc grea ness oi loc 's precious fthbtldt t t fthb t l t ffl XVord. Therefore, more and more. people make use of this golden opportunity at the evening school. Then as our church reaches out with growing interest in the spread of the glorious Gospel, the doctrine of missions is of concentrated study. As the church moves forth like a mighty army. every enlisted solider wants the best training possible. Therefore, the school becomes a beehive of activity after the days work is done. and many of God's children set aside an evening for training and inspiration to be of greater service for the Master who saves us and calls us to service. As students of the evening school. we are grateful to have this grand opportunity. and feel indebted to the teachers who faithfully and unselhshly give of their time and energies to make this possible. May God's richest blessings continue upon them and our school to the glory of His name and the coming of His Kingdom. In His service. NIINER Taxis. Page Sr nity nine
