0 Help-meets Club We have again commenced a new year and truly rejoice. for the Lord has led many more young people to prepare for work in His Kingdom. As our new members share the enthusiasm ol' the former members. we are again experiencing a very successful year, lVe're happy to introduce Mrs. David Boyd, of Holland, Michigan. who is guiding our activities as counsellor this year. Wfe feel that her guidance has contributed greatly to our success. As in previous years, our meetings are informal. and mainly con- sist of a devotional period and a guest speaker. Our speakers have been chosen in accordance with our needs for preparation for our work with our husbands. The hostess for each meeting was chosen according to the different areas, such as Holland. I-ludsonville, and Grand Rapids. Since we have enjoyed many spiritual blessings from the Chris- tian fellowship we had together, and from the messages from Gods Word, we sincerely pray that future club members may be inspired as much as we. The Secretarial Course Two years ago our school began offering secretarial courses for those who desire to serve the Lord's cause through Christian secretarial work as church secretaries and other positions requiring knowledge ol Scripture. Bible Doctrine, and Christian service. This past year the full list of secretarial courses was offered. Typing, Shorthand, and Business English were taught by Mr. Gerrit l. Buistl and Bookkeeping and Office Technique were taught by Mr. jack Stoepker Qboth part-time teachersj. Concerning his subjects, Mr. Buist writes: Shorthand, typing and Business English are the subjects taught in this course during evening classes. The first two are valuable skills that can be inastered only by persistent application. Through neglect their usefulness may quickly be lost. But constant, painstaking prac- tice has its rewards. There is scarcely any greater satisfaction than that derived from doing our daily work well. Business English is, of course, of basic importance. It aims to teach the student to express himself siniply, directly and forcefully in business writings. Without a knowledge of good usage, connnon errors in speech and writing would increase and our language would lose its clarity. The use of the right word is i1.ecessa1'y. To be able to say what we mean it is essential that our nzeanizzg be clear. Whenever good words are put to a bad use. whether purposely or through igno- rance, harm and confusion result. lt is a privilege to teach at the R. B. I., and to note the progress made by the students through diligent application. Above all. it is gratifying to feel that the work of Christian inissions is effectively being advanced by the training afforded by this school. May the Lord continue to bless it, and cause it to be a blessing. Sincerely yours, CZERRIT I. BUIST Page Sezfenty-seven
