Page Sixty-two My First Taste of Personal Work,' Good afternoon! I represent the Back To God Chapel on the corner and am here in the interest of your spiritual life. May I step in and have a word with you? With this we began our first taste of personal Contact with the world. Many and varied were the answers to the simple questions that were asked as to the spiritual life of the individual or home we entered. Often we prayed for new courage, added strength and more wisdom to help a wandering soul or a seeking sinner. How thankful we were for the privilege of testifying of the love and com- passion of our Lord and King. Happy was the occasion when we met a fellow Christ- ian who also believed in our faithful Cod, but how our heart ached for the elderly man and woman who had stepped down the pathway of life together and were now winding their way toward the gateway of death only to look forward to the bleak unknown. Wle, who can yet enjoy life. must show these people that there is a heaven and a hell. NVe must teach them through Cod's Word that it is not through our good works that we inherit eternal life, but only through the blood of jesus Christ our Saviour may we be entitled to it. Oh, that they would only see that their good works are as filthy rags in the sight of God. How peaceful and happy would be their walk if it were in the pathway of Cod. lVe greet a young mother who at one time attended a church. but now because of the opposition of her husband has slipped to a life centered on her family and its earthly cares. As we talk to her we realize she is searching for an answer to her daily needs. but is seeking only through this world's means of social activities and civic necessities. Wfhat a joy it is to see the Spirit working in her heart as we read from Gods Holy NVord and. in the quietness of prayer, beseech Cod to show this mother the way to joy and peace so that she and her family may come to know the blessed- ness of a home built on the Rock, Christ jesus. In looking back at some of these first contacts of personal work we realize how needy the harvest is for ardent workers. How easily men are being led astray by false prophets. Modernistic ideas of self-attainment and future perfections have full sway in the hearts of the people. YVhat an overpowering grip the Devil has on this world. Wliat havoc he can cause. Here we must stop and listen, for God's Word tells us, For he that soweth to his Hesh shall of the flesh reap corruptiong but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Cal. 6:8, 9. YVe then have a great challenge before us. Have we just tasted the need or are we eating up the opportunity to witness? Are we just seeking the straying or are we finding the lost? Are we enjoying our own salvation or are we rejoicing to be counted worthy to witness for Him? Let us not just see the need of personal contact, but let us taste and feel the power of personal contact with the world through the Spirit's working. EDNA HOSSINK- junior
