Page Forty-six Why I Came to the Reformed Bible Institute My feelings were mingled as I stepped off the train in Gallup that day in March almost three years ago. Seeing the beautiful Red Rocks and the sloping hills, I was reminded of our great Creator and a silent prayer went up from my heart that some- how, somewhere. He might see fit to use even me. a layworker, who was the greenest of the green. I soon felt at home with my sister to meet me and all the children singing in the main dining room, There's a Welcoiiie Here. Even though I was away from home and friends for the first time, I did not feel lonely, because these people were away from their homes too. I realized too as never before that our Cod is an omni- present God, able to take care of each one of us no matter where we might be. My round of duties soon began as I was the new laundress. I never saw so many dresses, shirts, levis, sheets, and towels in my life! There are two dormitories at Rehoboth, and each one houses approximately sixty students. I used to think that my Mom had a lot of washing to dog but this was really something different. It also was my privilege to relieve the two matrons of the dormitories on their day off. I enjoyed putting the little children to bed. singing choruses with them, and kneeling to pray. thanking God for the many blessings received. The older children would not always be so willing to go to bed on time, they tried to do just one more Arithmetic problem or read just one more page in their books. In the morning, their faces were not always cheery and bright when the rising bell was rung. After devotions, the children would leave for their respective details: some to set the tables in the dining room, to peel potatoes in the kitchen, to gather the hospital laundry, and to dust the furniture and sweep the floors in the dormitories. Each child from perhaps the fourth grade through high school has a special duty for which he is responsible. An important phase of mission work at Rehoboth is the hospital where the Indian people come from their homes on the reservation to receive healing for their pain-racked bodies. VVhile they are recovering from their sicknesses, they also re- ceive healing for their sin-sick souls by means of tape recordings of messages and by personal testimonies of the different staff members. I'Vhat a challenge it should be then to live our lives in such a way that others seeing us may see Christ in us! What a blessing it is to see those who have been in the darkness of sin for so long come to the saving knowledge of jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. After I had been at Rehoboth for some time, I began to realize that I was not capable of explaining the great fundamental truths to these young lives. After much prayer and planning. I felt that it was Codfs will that I should go to the Reformed Bible Institute. I do not know just what the future holds, but I am satisfied to know that He holds the key. ST DE COUNCIL Standing- Harriet Bussis, Adeline Meyer, Jemima Ensing, lfVesley Timmer, Rev. VValters, advisor, Maivm Vugteveen, Mildred Van Dyke, Stephena De VVit Seated-Albert Bytwork. IVayne Alderink, XVi1lard lVillink, President, Marilyn Y'Vitteveen Not pictured -John Tucker Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! The pleasure and blessedness of such unity is the rich experience of the student body of the Reformed Bible Institute. In a world of strained social relationships, it is no small privilege and delight to study on a campus that can truly be called a spiritual-life center. The purpose of the Student Council is to promote the various social activities of the school. It is especially at our school parties that faculty and students are knit together. The Student Council, under the supervision of the faculty, concerns itself with the best in- terests of the students and of the school. It was with this in mind that the council decided, in the opening months of this school year, to publish a school paper each month. This paper has proven a real asset to our student activities and has revealed some fine literary talent among our student body. As a result of our school paper another member was added to our Student Council body, namely, the editor of our paper. Thus, our present council consists of the elected officers, two delegates from each class. and the editors of our paper and of our annual The Echo . Presi- dent YValters serves as advisor. More important still is the guidance of our God, whose help we implore, in the opening of each meeting. Our prayer is that God may ever use the Student Council of the Reformed Bible Institute, to maintain and promote that Christian love and unity which is so evident on our campus today. UBIESI' be the tie that binds Om' hearts in CIITZUSIIIZH love, The fellowship of kindred minds Is like to that above. WILLARD WILLINK Student Council President Pave F02 ty ewlit
