KUTZTOWN STATE COLLEGE KUTZTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA 195S0 President How nice it is to be in the rolling hills of the Pennsylvania Dutch country. Here we are in lovely farm country where there is little, if any, air pollution, where we can enjoy the rippling of the wind on a spring or summer's day, where there is green grass and fresh air, and, yet, we are halfway between two metropolitan areas. Here on the campus we have our own cultural program which we can enjoy but, if we wish to leave the college community, we can go to Allentown and Reading, or extend our horizons farther and go to New York City or Philadelphia. On our campus this past year, we were able to enjoy the all-college musical, The Music Man; many good rock groups; a number of we 11-per formed theatre productions; several fine films; many excellent lectures, and, of course, the large number of athletic events. This college is a wholesome community with outstanding students from all walks of life. I enjoy informal contacts with students, the formal dinners, the athletic events, and the chats with small groups. Our faculty, from throughout the United States and a few foreign countries, is a friendly one, both individually and collectively. Whether informally in the lunch room, formally in committee work, or socially, our fine professors have become close personal friends. How nice it is to be on this campus where there is a potential for growth in regards to physical plant, programs, and services. Depending upon financial resources, the possibilities for this institution are almost unlimited. We have acreage for the expansion of our physical plant, the expertise of a faculty to develop programs, and the dedication of faculty and staff to provide services. The pleasures which we have with the hundreds of Alumni have meant a great deal to us, ranging from the few who graduated prior to 1900 to those who are currently in their first year as alumni. We have found a diversity of people, but yet they all have shared their aspirations for, interest in, and dedication to Kutztown State College. How nice it is to be here with the Pennsylvania Dutch of Kutztown Borough and Maxatawny Township. The people of the area are hard-working, industrious, analytical, and genuine. They are cooperative and good friends of the college. We appreciate the willingness of those in the community who work continually with us in improving the town and gown relationships. We enjoy being their neighbors, as we hope they enjoy being ours. There is a compactness to this institution and yet it has a cosmopolitan flavor about it. I' enjoy being here. 18 Lawrence M. Stratton
