FRESHMAN CLASS They gave us maroon and white dinks and ties, a copy of The Key, a load of good wishes and we were college freshmen. We spent the first week making acquain- tances and attending the various parties, hikes, and mixers which the upperclassmen showered upon us. Frosh customs took the limelight all during the football season. After some time, we met to nominate candidates for class offices. We also began laying plans for our Eight Ball Dance which was held for all the college in late January. Our class was the first to see a change from the veteran-dominated class, for we were composed largely of younq men and women from the graduating classes of last year. Our very large membership helped to make this the peak year in college enrollment. As we look forward to the next three years, we cannot help but feel that we are striving to become fully prepared to take our places in the teaching profession. OFFICERS Prosldont ............... PENN STATE FRESHMEN Each year Kutztown receives its quota of Penn State College freshmen. These students are enrolled in the curriculums of Liberal Arts, Agriculture, Architecture, and Engineering. For all men with the exception of veterans of World War II, this program includes participation in the Reserve Officers Training Corps. After com- pleting their freshman year at Kutztown, these students hope to continue their studies on the State College campus. 26

SOPHOMORE CLASS The sophomore class represents a typical twentieth-century group of American college students. The group boasts leadership not in one phase of college activity, but in all the many aspects of college life—scholarship, art, athletics, dramatics, journalism, and music. We have our lighter side when that is the order of the day, but we are serious in nature because we fully realize the demands our profession makes of us. We began our second year with these things in mind and a determination to make this a year full of the same satisfactions which we experienced in the past. Our main duty was to act as members of the customs committee to keep the freshmen in line. This we did by the formation of our tribunal which met weekly to try customs violators and to deal out punishment to them. Through the efforts of this group, cus- toms were more successful this year than in any other year since the post-war period. This year we also sponsored the Valentine Dance. In all our pursuits, we are preparing to take our places in the teaching field. During the next two years, we will undertake specialization in a particular field and our practice teaching. We will use these experiences to develop professional know- ledge and teaching techniques. OFFICERS President . Salvatoro Aita Secretary ..... Doris Bright Vice-President Thomas Rosica Treasurer Louiso Ruff
