On a cool Autumn afternoon of September Sth, Kulpmont High School ushered in it's 1946 football season. The crowd was extremely enthusiastic and the students cheered and sang loudly. The players were tense for on their shoulders lay a burden-to continue the record of victories. This first game was played against Mount Carmel Township and ended in a smashing victory for our wildcats. With only one thought in their minds, that of continuing Kulpmont's two year streak of consecutive wins. They fought gallant- ly and bravely as the pressure increased with every win. The boys fought, and fought their best, but a gallant team finally met defeat from Minersville High. Before losing they set a state record of 27 consecutive victories which may take some time to be excelled. Although this year we did not win the district championship, yet, we received more satisfaction in establishing a state record than in becoming champions. The school, the Faculty, the Student Body, can rightfully be proud of The Blue and White Team. because they had tried at all times to do their best. 44

The group, although lacking height and experience, performed with such a spirit of aggressiveness that they commanded the praise of all the spectators. Although we lost our opening game with Mount Carmel Township, the team showed a complete reversal of form on our home court by defeating the Green and Gold for our first league victory. Other games which boys showed a great deal of improvement were Shamokin and Mount Carmel, our greatest rivals. In these games, we repeatedly held the upper hand the first three periods, however, the team lost in the final minutes because of its inability to cope with more experienced quintets. The basketball team did not live up to the expectations, nevertheless it was feared and respected by its opponents during the entire season. Members of the team who played their final games for K. H. S. were: Thomas Gekosky, Matthew Mudrick, Edward Chesney, Steven Hyduk, Joseph Krulock. 66
