We do this in order to show her our appreciation for her wonderful and inspiring help as our advisor of the LAIR and for all the other things she has done for us as our English teacher for the past three years. Proverbs 3113- 15 ESTHER KOLCZAK KENNETH KOLCZAK Mrs. Winters and Mrs. Kolczak serve approximately eighty in the hot lunch program every day. The hot lunch program follows a pre- scribed menu sent out by the State Department. They served the G. T. A. banquet in the fall and held a hard times dance this spring. With the proceeds of these two activities and member- ship dues they sponsored a delegate to Girls' State, gave a donation to the I. F. Y. E. fund, awarded cash prizes each month to the class rooms winning room count each meeting, and purchased a set of'Melmac, a service for forty-eight. SCHOCL BOARD I. McCormickg E. Beck, Clerkg W. Rolston, Chairmang N. Johnson. The Kremlin School Board made numerous improvements in and around the school. They blacktopped a playground area, put in new sidewalks, built a new fire escape, and put in a new fire alarm and bell system. The new windows they put in on the south and west sides of the building made a great improvement in the appearance of the school. The check- out file was kept up-to-date. For several weeks special meetings were held so that time would be available to study the proper library procedures and to become familiar with library lingo. Participation was open to all high school students interested in either acting or various phases of stage work. The culmination of their effort was Cheaper by the Dozen which they produced in November. The remainder of the year was spent on dramatics and humorous readings. The traditional theme, Saddle Serenade, was carried out with gym decorations portraying a western scene. Dan Johnson from Northern Montana College acted as master of ceremonies. Prizes of 320, 315, and 310 were given the happy first, second and third place winners. A dance immediately after the show rounded out the evening's ac- tivities. Music was provided by Red Lee's Orchestra. The proceeds of the show, plus the chorus funds from previous shows, were used to buy a piano for the school. Royal purple, magenta, and lilac streamers did carry out the color scheme for the canopied sidewalk cafes surrounding the dance floor. The Eiffel Tower stood in the center and beyond was seen the Arc de Triomphe. Overhead were midnight-blue streamers and hundreds of silver stars. A Parisian flower cart graced the stage, and rock walls and trees provided the entrance for each Parisian named cafe. French menus, programs, punch girls, and waiters completed the setting for an Evening in Paris. The French waiters wore black pants, white shirts, black bow ties, moustaches, aprons, and large chef hats. The girls' ballerina outfits were pink and blue. Music was by the Four Squires. A lunch was served. They toured the State Penitentiary at Deer Lodge, the State Hospital at Warm Springs, and the TB Sani- tarium at Galen. After spending two days in Missoula and Kalispell just loafing, the seniors con- Page 54 cluded the week-end at Big Moun- tain on the ski lift. The trip was very enjoyable and will remain in the memories of six seniors for a long time. 5 Page 55 Page 56 C ASS HISTORY Four momentous years started in the fall of 1956 for Jeanne Bailey, Earl Johnson, Marvin Melby, Terry Murdoff, Gail Pollington, Mary Wall, and Margaret Rolston. As freshmen they elected Mary, president, Earl, vice president, Jeanne, secretary, and Margaret, treasurer. Marvin, Earl, and Terry went out for basketball and the girls joined the Pep Club to utilize their school spirit. As sophomores the class was reduced to five, Earl and Jeanne had left the K. H. S. ranks. Mary had a part in the play, Grandad Goes Wild, while Gail and Meg helped backstage. Class officers for the year were Mary, president, Gail, vice president, Terry, secretary, and Margaret, treas- urer. As juniors they sponsored a magazine sale to raise money. The prom, Blue Hawaii, was held April 30. Music was furnished by the Melody Makers in a gym decorated in pink, green, and yellow. The Junior-Senior Banquet was held April 27. Nine Girls was presented April 12. Mary, Margaret and Gail took parts. The basketball team ended up in fifth place that year. Earl was back at Kremlin High again. Senior class officers were: Margaret, presidentg Gail, vice president, Mary, secre- taryg Earl, treasurer, and Terry was the student council representative. The senior class had a cakewalk booth at the carnival in October. in November the high school play, Cheaper by the Dozen, found Mary, Gail, Earl, and Terry portray- ing roles, and Margaret as assistant director. In January the senior class sponsored an ice-skating party for the high school at Fresno Lake. The basketball team worked its way to fourth place in the District 11 Class C Tournament in Havre in February. On April 20 the seniors and their chaperones left on their sneak trip. Margaret and Mary attended High School Week in Bozeman, April 27 to 29. The prom, Evening in Paris, was held April 29. The Junior-Senior Banquet was held the following Tuesday, May 2, at Andy's in Havre. There the juniors and seniors feasted on chicken and shrimp and listened to Bonnie Guitar, who was then appearing. Class Night was on May 20. The class will, prophecy, poem, alphabet, and history were read to the public before the giving of awards. On Sunday, May 14, baccalaureate services saw the senior girls wearing white rose corsages and the boys with blue carnations. Commencement exercises the 16th gave them the chance to wear their blue and white robes. The receiving of their diplomas ended their career as members of K. H. S. GR DUATIO Baccalaureate services were held at eight o'c1ock Sunday, May 14, in the gym. Reverend Dwaine Dunning of the Sixth Avenue Christian Church in Havre was the speak- er. The high school chorus, under the direction of Miss Arlyce Gallus, sang Adoremus Te and Now the Day Is Over. M Commencement, held May 16 at eight o'clock, found the six seniors wearing blue or white gowns. Mary Wall and Margaret Rolston, co-valedictorians, gave speeches. Dr. Duane Taft of Northern Montana College gave the commencement address. Ruth Wall gave the eighth grade valedictory speech. Mr. Wilbur Rolston, chairman of the board of trustees, presented the diplomas. Miss Arlyce Gallus, accompanied by Mrs. Rita Sleeman, sang, You'll Never Walk Alone. Reverend Warren Smith gave the invoca- tion and benediction. The processionals and recessionals were played by Mrs. Herb White, Inverness., The speakers and parents of the high school graduates wore blue carnations, while the eighth grade graduates wore white carnations.
