The fighting Dr coverer under their new coach D L Pudge Glenn opened their 1945 grid season September 21 by trouncrng the York eleven on the home gridiron by a 19 0 score Scores came in the opening ouarter the econd and again rn the third tanza Sparking the KHS backs were Pro yor e and 'Vhcek with Luchsrnger a standout in the ine On September 28 Co lumbus traveled to Kear ney to lose to a good Bearcat team 7 0 on a rainy windswept field Throughout the entire game it was mp and tuck vyrth a stubborn KHS eleyen fighting ey ery in h The second home game vyas on October 5 against Grand I land Columbus suffered a 32 0 defeat due to a big hard charg ing line and a strong run ning attack The Colum bus team played yy ell but threatened only once On Oct 12 the fight ing Drscoverers notched tvxo touchdovnns against a highly-rated Hastings team. but lost 34-12 on the enemy field. DAVE JELDEN Student Manager' Cheering section at Fremont Qcenes from Schuyl 1 gam Breaking then three game losing treak the Ma roon and White clipped Dayid City 39 0 on October 19th The Scouts eemed to hold the Columbus team on nearly even terms during the first half but vtere left in a cloud of dust rn the la t half Fremont defeated Columbus October 26th on the enemy field by a 21 7 core to gain po se sion of the cherished F and C trophy vthrch had been in Co lumbus possession for the three preceding ea ons John Glur cored the only tally for Columbu and Dick Thrmgan vt s an all round standout On November 2nd playing then ser rppiest game of the season the D1 eoyerer yxere doyyned by the heayily fay ored Norfolk Pantleers by a 27 18 trrsrn ph Norfolk led 13 0 at the half but Columbus lo ed a strong pa srng attack in the la t half and managed to put across three tallies Pa es featured Thrmgan 'Vlrcek and Oehlrlch yyith a lil e plunge by Glur This yyas Dads Night for the father of the team The Discoyerers finished their ea on Noy 9th by defeating Schuyler 14 0 The Warriors threatened many times but yyere held by a determined Colum bus eleven.
