They later devise a plan to get Burns shipped out. 18 Seniors big smash in M A S H The cast had a lot of fun film- ing the football game between M A S H and the 325th Evac. The hero of the game was Spearchucker Jones (A: John S.). Hawkeye put on an act as the Great White Hunter (E: Rick). But his 'acting' was challenged, how- ever, by the extremely gifted Bonwits (F: Kim S., Linda L., Maralee M. and Pat W. not pictured) who entertained the troops with song and dance done to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Adding even more to the choral effects of the play were Hawkeye and Duke (G: also Mark S., Kathy P., Julie H., Sue M.) Mr. Rose: Seeing the results as students meet adulthood and the challenges of life. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn? Mr. Jarnecke: I'd like for them to learn to be able to think, accept responsibility, be dependable. Many of these items you'll note are items that are not tied in with a world history course or a math course; they're just simply tied in with the fact of life, and if students can learn these things, then I think we've accomplished a pretty important goal. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn? Mr. Rommelmann: Oh, I think respect for their fellow man, and that there's a world outside the town of Kouts. .. become a teacher?â Interviewer: Why did you become a teacher? Mrs. Adams: I think because I enjoy working with young people and because it did give me the same kind of schedule as the rest of my family has. Interviewer: What have you learned from your students?' Mrs. Adams: ... that they aren't alike, they'll learn different things at different times. Things that you expect somebody to be able to catch, somebody else will do it instead. Basically, they're all a good bunch of kids. I've learned a great deal about people and how people react to each other. Interviewer: What do you like best about teaching? Mr. Briars: Watching children. Girls and boys who work on up from first grade all the way on to their Senior year are gaining some type of success. âWhat.. . you like best?â Interviewer: Why did you be- come a teacher? Mrs. Cunningham: Because I really wanted to work with students, mostly, and be- cause teaching is different everyday-never the same. Interviewer: What do you like best about teaching? Miss Dittmer: The challenges. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn? Miss Dittmer: ' . . . Well not to be naive, to recognize when they're being used, temperment, deceptions, that they have power, and that I'm not being naive. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn. Mrs. Drazer: ... to find a place for himself in our civilization or in our world, to be well adjusted, happy and be able to show some leadership.â âWhat .. students learn?â Interviewer: What have you learned from you students? Mrs. Drazer: I've learned so many things from my stu- dents, there isn't a day I don't learn something. My students have taught me that you can't judge by what they tell you and by what they know. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn? Mr. Drazer: I think that what I teach them is they have to learn something practical, something they can take home and use after they get out of high school since its a vocational class. Why, I think they should learn something of skills and some ideas that they can use either in farming or something related to farm- ing . . . . responsibility .. Interviewer: What have you learned from your students?11 Mrs. Elder: Sometimes that I'm not always right, some- times the kid who looks like he's guiltiest is sometimes most innocent-1 ike every- body picks on him. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn? Mr. Gesse: Maybe a little responsibility. It seems like you make assignments and so often they come to class and sit. Again, they expect you to do all the work, but they don't respond, have responsibility and get in- volved. Interviewer: What did you learn today? Mr. Gesse: You have to be more patient with some students than other students. Interviewer: What have you learned from your students? Mr. Giesler: Probably a little more ability to be patient with others. .. to be patient .. Interviewer: Do you think the goal of the school should be purely academic; why? Mr. Giesler: The goal of school should be purely academic learning .... Academics are an important part of learning, but just going to school in itself is social; therefore the people can adapt themselves socially. Interviewer: Why did you be- come a teacher? Mr. Godecke: Basically be- cause I wanted to help people. Interviewer: What do you like best about teaching? Mr. Godecke: Basically I like them to learn how to see in new ways. Interviewer: Why did you be- come a teacher? Mr. Good: Basically I become a teacher just because I had a very enjoyable experi- ence at high school, and I learned to love music. âSee in new ways.â Interviewer: What is your most memorable experience at K.H.S.? Mr. Good: The most memora- ble experience was two years ago at the Spring Con- cert when the community placed in my hands and in the hands of my family a sizable check allowing us to go back to Germany. Interviewer: Why did you become a teacher? Mr. Goralski: I was influenced during high school by some teachers that I've had and I thought I would enjoy work- ing with young people. Interviewer: What have you learned from your students? Mr. Goralski: I guess the same thing that I'm learning right now, that I don't have the answers for everyth!ng- all the questions that they ask. . .. from ... students?' Interviewer: What have you learned from your stu- dents? Miss Ilgenfritz: That you can't take anything for granted, you have to ex- plain even what you assume to be the most basic prin- ciple about what you're talking about, you have to explain everything. Another thing I've learned from my students is that you have to repeat three times before it sinks in. I've learned that you can't take a liberal view of education like I thought I was going to take. Interviewer: What do you like best about teaching? Mr. Lloyd: The feeling of sat- isfaction that is expressed by students when they un- derstand what rm trying to teach them. V .. uniqueness .. Interviewer: What is your most memorable experi- ence at K.H.S.? Miss Moses: Coaching suc- cess-girls' teams. Interviewer: What's reward- ing in teaching students? Miss Moses: Seeing the joy and excitement on a stu- dents face when he achieves on his own. Interviewer: What do you like best about teaching? Miss Moses: Opportunity to meet and know hundreds of kids and others of my pro- fession. Interviewer: What have you learned from your stu- denti? Mr. Murray: The uniqueness and beauty of personality. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn? Mr. Murray: Their life's full potential. .. open mind .. Interviewer: What is your most memorable experience at K.H.S.? Mr. Oates: That every play is memorable since each per- formance contains new sur- prises not in the script. Interviewer: What do you like best about teaching? Mr. Oates: I enjoy the chal- lenges, insofar as those which result in a student performing better in En- glish or dramatics. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn?1 Mr. Palm: To retain an open mind is always to ask ques- tions. Interviewer: What have you learned from your stu- dents? Mr. Palm: That each person is an individual and should be treated as an individ- ual. 80 V .. alot more aware .. Interviewer: What have you learned from your stu- dents!? Mr. Pflum: Well the first year you learn quite a bit from your students. First of all, every year you teach you get a little bit harder on the students; you don't let them do as much. You learn that students at high school age maybe aren't quite as ready as I first thought they were to do all these things on their own, and you have to guide them a little more, but on the other hand alot of students have taught me that they're alot more aware of things in the world-not just school work-but alot more aware than I ever was at that age. They know alot more about the world . . . Interviewer: Why did you be- come a teacher? Mr. Power: I believe there's â... your own thing .. a purpose for everybody in this world anH when you're able to fulfill that voca- tion then no longer does your work become a chore. If there's enjoyment in it. It doesn't matter if you're a ditch-digger, baker or a lawyer; once you're able to do your own thing then it is enjoyment or a satis- faction. Interviewer: What's rewarding in teaching?' Ms. Sloan: In the library it's fun to help the kids find specific information; then they know where to look afterwards. Interviewer: What did you learn today? Mr. Stone: That many stu- dents have curiosity that is unsalable and regardless of how much time it takes. ... humor to survive.â or whatever they're working on, that they're more than glad to spend the time to work on it. And devote the time to it and really enjoy learning. Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn? Mrs. Sutton: I would like my students to learn how to think for themselves, how to co-operate with others, and to appreciate their school- ing (even if it takes them 20 years to realize it). Interviewer: What would you like your students to learn? Mrs. Wieland: I'd like them to learn to be self-sufficient, well adjusted individuals. Interviewer: What have you learned from your stu- dents!? Mrs. Wieland: I have learned you need a sense of humor to survive. 81 MILLER'S KOUTS CERTIFIED 404 S.
