Glass History In the year 1946 forty-one wonders entered the first grade with Mrs. Benson endeavoring to prepare us for the problems that we were to face in reaching our goal as graduates of 1958. (Remember when Vernon got a spanking for a low grade when Verna actually had the low grade). Those wonders who entered and are still with us are Katherine Benson, Leslie Birky, Wesley Birky, Ruth Ann Cannon, Geraldine Dusek, Barry Fritz, James Heinold, Virginia Jahnz, Patricia Kasl, Laura Maul, Larry Maxwell, Owen Martin, Verna Nuest, Vernon Nuest, Betty Oswald, Sharon Reinhardt, Valiant Schultz. John Stewart, Beverly Tucker, Donald Upton, Wendell Werner, and Pauline Luthi. As we started the second step toward our goal with Mrs. Hofferth as our guide, we found that we had gained three and lost one. Joining the wonders were Nancy Miller. Richard Hiatt, and Donald Miller, making the total forty-three. (Remember when Pat Kasl got kicked out of class for fighting.) Under the supervision of Mrs. Filer we began our third year with the heavy loss of six but we discovered that Madeline Herma had joined the wonders mak- ing our total forty-nine. (Remember when Ruth Ann Cannon was made captain of the Boys’ baseball team.) We ascended to the second floor to meet our teacher for the fourth year. Mrs. Nocco. Our total enrollment was thirty-eight. (Pauline Luthi was spanked this year and John Stewart’s dinner was conviscated.) The fifth year brought a great surprise to us; our teacher, Mr. Mundy, was “a man”. We began with a total enrollment of thirty-seven. This was the most peaceful year of our journey. (Mr. Mundy had the misfortune of sitting on a tack placed on his seat by Katherine Benson.) As we entered our last year of grade school with Mr. Galasso we lost five of our wonders and found that Bill Kerns had joined making our total forty-one. (One of the highlights of our sixth year was the addition of Bill Kerns, Wes Bir- ky, and Betty Oswald’s names to Mr. Galasso’s paddle.) In our first year of Junior High we had the privilege of having Mr. Galasso as our sponsor to advise us in our new experiences. Nancy Olson joined us this year. (Jim Heinold had to stand with his nose in a circle on the blackboard in math class.) Our second year of Junior High began with thirty-seven wonders under the guidance of Mr. Hospers and Mrs. Kennedy. John Clarke, Glen Kneifel, Sam Mil- ler, and Bob Taylo joined us. (Remember when Virginia Jahnz used the stair banister for a taxi.) In our ninth year under the guidance of Mr. Gray we participated in the freshman initiation with the initiation being carried on by our upper classmen. (Those screams were Nancy Miller being shocked with a pig shocker.) Once again we found Mr. Gray as our sponsor as we entered our tenth year. (This time the screams were made by Sharon Reinhardt when she found a dead rat in her locker.) We were privileged in our junior year as we found Mr. Taylor as our spon- sor. Many exciting things happened in our junior year including our junior play cl.maxed with a pizza party afterwards. We began our senior year with a total of thirty-two under the guidance of Miss Dittmer. We’ll always remember the senior play but most of all the play fractices, the day we picked up corn, the yearbook staff meetings, our trip, and graduation.
