Class History In the year 1943, twenty-seven passengers boarded the Kankakee Steamer to start their 12 year journey to education. Sixteen are still with us. They are: Clarence, Roger Cannon, Dick, Jerry, Glen Hefner, David, Wayne, Bill, Joan, Bernice, Rose, Alice, Janet, Vera, Evelyn, and Donna. We will never forget the times we were tied in our seats and put in corners. It must have been a good year for three entered and one left. As we entered the second grade, Miss Drazer, our teacher helped us to write our names. We gained six and lost three. We had twenty- four members that year. In the third grade, with Mrs. Filer as our teacher, we entered with twenty- three members. We were divided into groups and acted out stories from our reader. Six entered this year and two left. We entered the fourth grade with twenty-four pupils, with Miss Chelf as our guide. During the year four more entered and two left. We remember especially giving the operetta, “Tom Sawyer.” The sixth grade was the greatest year. Mrs. Watson was our captain and we remember when she won a mink stole. We also won the spelling contest. We gave fables and a Christmas play with the fourth and fifth grades. We shall always remember the day we entered the seventh grade, for we had to get used to the changing classes. During the seventh and eighth grade three new students entered. Thirty-five graduated from the eighth grade. Mr. Broad was our leader. The years from 9-12 were the years we enjoyed the most. We gained four, who are still with us. Mr. Broad still guided us as freshmen. Mrs. Kennedy sponsored us as sophomores. During our eleventh year we journeyed with the Seniors to the Wisconsin Dells for our class trip. We will always remember those three days of excursions up and down the dells and endles parties which went on. With Mr. French’s guidance we stuck to our course. Now, as we come to the end of our journey, Seniors at last, we visited the state legislature with the Juniors. To finish the year the Juniors and Seniors en- joyed a vacation to Spring Mill in southern Indiana. These are but some of our memories of the twelve years of school as we, the twenty-eight Seniors of 1955, remember them.
