Dittmer, our Senior sponsor, we offer this small tribute to one, who un- selfishly gives up many hours of her time, in school and out, to give aid, assistance, and advice to students, (underclassmen as well as seniors), who need it. Principal Bebbi) Prough, Secrebarij ■ STARS Prophecy ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see, Saw the vision of the world, and all the wonders that would be; Saw the heavens fill with commerce, argosies of magic sails, Pilots of the purple twilight, dropping down with costly bales; Heard the heavens fill with shouting, and there rain’d a ghastly dew From the nations’ airy navies grappling in the central blue; Far along the world-wide whisper of the south-wind rushing warm, With the standards of the peoples plunging thro’ the thunder-storm; Till the war-drum throbb’d no longer, and the battle-flags were furl’d In the Parliament of man, the Federation of the world. There the common sense of most shall hold a fretful realm in awe, And the kindly earth shall slumber, lapt in universal law. WE MAY TAKE THESE MEMORIES BUT WE LEAVE TO YOU, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING, OUR OWN KOUTS HIGH SCHOOL. —Bill Tabler and George Taylor Tune To “The House I Live In’ Poem For the Class of “52” This is the poem for the class of “52” You may not believe a word, but it’s all true. Jim Cannon is first on the list; Tells all the girls he’s never been kissed. Lil Deli is next in line, As an artist she does fine. Roy Hefner, better known as “Stubby” Rightfully so, and would make a good hubby. Dick Herring, manager of our team Usually makes all the girls scream. Charlotte Hibbs always seems to try, But the boys say she’s just too shy. Ted Hitz, a photographer to be, Let him take your picture and you will see. Doris Kerlinska a nurse when she gets through, But don’t let her ever work on you. Lois Kraker is our class blonde Of her we are very fond. Eleanor Krug has an Air Force man, Soon she’ll be an air mail fan. Kenny Martin says this is no baloney That he has always been a faithful user of Toni. Dick Miller has kinky brown hair, Without it his head would be bare. Jack Nuest with his jeep Up Reinhardt’s lane he would creep. Lillian Olson was our Prom Queen, Maybe someday she’ll be on the screen. Shirley Reinhardt is our class midget, Will she ever become a double didget? Marlene Rhynard our student director, With our play we almost wrecked her. Ken Strong has our class height, All the rest don’t think that’s right. John Struve used to work in the Royal Blue But one day told Bill he was through. Norma Taylor is very shy, We’d like to know the reason why. Melvin Wallace does Marge no harm; Because he’s after that Luthi farm. Nancy Wise and Susie Young bring up the rear, From them nothing we hear. Bill Tabler and George Taylor as you can see, Were never meant for authors of poetry. Just a line to let you know we’re through, Concerning the Class of “52”. Bill Tabler and George Taylor Class History Turning back the pages of our script to September, 1940, on our television screen, then six inches square, we spot Kouts High School with 33 sparkling little tots entering the first grade. There were fourteen girls: Velma Coyer, Doris Kerlinska, Lois Kraker, Eleanor Krug, Sara Maul, Anna Lou Minton, Lillian Olson, Jo Ann Reif, Marlene Rhynard, Betty Schumaker, Nancy Stanley, Elsie Van Dusen. Nancy Wise and Susie Young. The boys were Marston Birky, August Bums, Jim Cannon, Bryson Cummings, Roy Hefner, Dick Herring, Ted Hitz, Jim Jackson, Lambert Kneifel, Kenny Martin. Jack Nuest, George Taylor, Donald Tombinson, Tom Schultz Hayse Shoemaker, John Struve, Ronald Snow, Eugene Witt, and Virgil Wray. During the year Bonita Miller joined us; Donald Tombinson, Velma Coyer, and Jo Ann Reif left. In the second grade we lost four buddies, one of them being Jim Cannon. John Peterich joined us. We lost two in the third grade and our screen enlarged when we made a gain of five including Orrin DeWitt, Teddy Elliot, Mary Jane Cooper, Shirley Reinhardt, and Roland Good. During the fourth and fifth grades we felt proud when ten more joined us. These were Louise Dawson, Robert Good, Arthur and Beverly Hundt, Horace Hunter, Norma Taylor, Beverly Thomas, Phillip Fox, Jim Cannon, and Charlotte Hibbs Our proudness didn’t last long though when we realized we had lost eight. We didn’t do so well in the sixth grade; we lost four and gained two—Kenny Strong, and Florence Fitzgerald. In the seventh grade we stepped up one when we lost five and gained six. These were Roy Borth, Lillian Deli, Dick Miller, Norma Russell, Ruth Lansing, and Thelm Saulsgiver. By this time our scripts contained a good foundation and a larger screen to hold our abilities. In the eighth grade Florence Fitzgerald left but came back as a freshman with Joan Johnson. Three others left in our fresman year. We must have had enemies in our Junior year for Roland Good, Joan Johnson, Elsie Van Dusen, Louise Dawson, Florence Fitzgerald, and Anna Lou Minton left. We presented a very successful play with Mrs. Strassemeyer directing. The play was called “The Zoozah.” This year we entered school happily for no one left or entered. In October, we put on a popular play, “A Date With Judy.” Miss Dittmer helped to make it a great success. Senior Class Phnphecy It was six o’clock on an evening of 1962 I was very tired from a hard day’s work at the office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D. C. when I turned on the television set and settled down for a quiet evening at home. As always, I listen to a news broadcast. I was in luck to get Commentator Bill Tabler for today’s top news and headlines. Bill’s interpretation of the news is always very vivid and, upon the death of Drew Pearson, he has been predicting the news 91% accurate. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, let’s go to press. . Here is a picture taken by one of T. V’s top photographers, Ted Hitz, on the recent exploration at the newly built atomic plant headed by James Cannon in Van Buren. Flash! I see that Marlene Rhynard, reporter at large, has been given the Hey- wood Broun Memorial Award for outstanding work in journalism during the past year. Also, Admiral Richard Miller has been promoted to a higher rank, head naval officer in the Pacific .... Flash! Republcan President John Robert Struve, made headlines today as he amazed the world by appointing Democratic Senator Kenneth Martin to head the old Kefauver investigating committee. Senator Martin’s first statement to the press was, and I quote, “I’m going to clean house,’’ unquote; probably referring to the White House .... Another Flash! Susie Young’s husband died and left her $20,000. It seems like Susie has her wish (To be rich). And now my first prediction—I predict that Lois Kraker will finally get married within the next year. She says she won’t but, well you know how it goes. I predict, too, that Shirley Reinhardt, who is the mother of five big girls, will finally get a boy the next time. Also, Dick Herring, bellboy at the Steven’s Hotel in Chicago, will quit. He had better; he’s getting fired next week anyway for disorderly conduct. Just a minute ladies and gentlemen, here is a bulletin just handed to m Senior Class Phophecy Norma Taylor, the girl who struck it rich up in Alaska several weeks ago, has just returned to the United States and has purchased a $20,000 acre cattle ranch in Texas. She has Melvin Wallace working for her. He is the foreman; he has spent most of his life in the West. Also working for her is Doris Kerlinska who chaperones the children of the cow hands in her spare time. Tefft must have gotten pretty rough for her. Well that’s all for now. Good-night folks.” After a brief intermission, have to eat once in a while you know, I returned to my easy chair. A new show, “It could happen to anybody” was next on T. V. It was sponsored by that world reknown horse trainer, Charlotte Hibbs. Starring was her wonder horse Reggirt, Trigger spelled backwards. The guest star of the night was the one and only Eleanor Krug, better known as “Dag Junior.” She is known as Dagmar’s successoi. Now the camera turns to the audience and in the spotlight one of George Taylor’s experiments just flew by. Ever since his Nash broke down, he’s been experi- menting on a new engine far more superior than that put out by the Nash Company. It seems like all the members of the fair sex are wearing the new hair-do created by the greatest beautician in the country, Lillian Olson. Ah, I see Roy Hefner in the audience. He seems to be enjoying himself. He ought to; he’s head of the Dairy Corporation back in Chicago. Evidently his dairy herd profited him. Sitting with him is Secretary of Agriculture Jack Nuest. Since Jack has been the head of that department, atomic energy has been developed for farm use. Yes, I think that’s Lillian Deli, the most famous modern artist in the world, watching the show. She married a French painter and their eight little artists are being chaperoned by Nancy Wise Well, what do you know, I’ve seen all the class of ’52 tonight. Yes sir, I sure enjoyed watching telivision. When the review started it showed the band under a new director, Mr. Arthur Wasik. As the program continued it showed the band marching on October 19, at the Valparaiso University Homecoming. The basketball season didn't start only basketball but also started the perform- ance of the band. In the first home game, which was November 9, we played Jackson. The Kouts band formed the letters “HI” and sang a welcome song. They also formed a “J” and “K” representing each school. All during the basketball season the band continued these performances. On the night of the.last game, which was February 22, with Morgan, they formed the letters “HI” and sang the welcome song and the letter “M” and “K” for each school. They also formed a heart to represent a Val- entine with an arrow through it. They played “LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART.” On the fifth of December some of the band members and high school chorus participated in the All County Music Festival at Valparaiso. On the ninth of February some members of the Kouts band participated in the Solo and Ensemble Contest. The entrees were: Carol Danford, Doris Kniefel, Nor- man Schnekenburger, Bill Salzer, Lillian Deli, Lois Rodrick and Nancy Fiench. These were entered as solos. There was one duet played by Lillian Deli and Doris Kerlinska. March 14, the High School Band, High School Mixed Chorus, 7th and 8th Girls and Boys Choruses gave a concert. April 5th the High School Band participated in the District Band Contest at Knox, Indiana. We’ve really had a big year for sports this year. We’ve had baseball, basketball, and track. We are here this evening to commenorate these sports and the performers. Basketball season is the longest and probably the biggest sport here but don’t for a minute leave out baseball and track. The boys who perform in these activities have to meet some qualifications. They are as follows: Must be passing in at least three subjects, must keep training rules, and last but not least they must have the ability. The boy who succeeds in swishing the most basketballs through the nets at the free throw line during games all season has the honor of having his name engraved on a plaque. This year that boy is Ken Strong. Please notice our teams and -coaches as they flash across the screen for this is the last view you’ll get of them in action in the years of 1951 and 1952. V. Hit, “A Date With Judy.” The play, staged in the Foster living-room, involves Judy, her suspecting family, and her girlfriends, as they stage a tremendous hit trying to win contests, boys, and stardom. It rose to a hilarious peak as Oogie serenaded Judy with, ‘ I’ve Got A Date With Judy.” Judy Foster___________________Shirley Reinhardt Melvin Foster_____________________________Kenny Strong Dora Foster_______________________________Doris Kerlinska Randolph Foster----------------------------John Struve Hanna_____________________________________Norma Taylor Barbara Winsocket-----------------Lillian Olson Oogie Pringle_____________________George Taylor Mitzie Hoffman___________________ Lillian Deli Mr. Martindale----------------------Roy Hefner Mrs. Hotchkiss______________________Nancy Wise Eloise Hotchkiss--------------------Lois Kraker Mrs. Schlutzhammer-----------------Eleanor Krug Rexford Meredith O’Conner---------Kenny Martin Susie O’Conner_____________________________Susie Young Director __________________________________ Miss Dittmer Student Director________________Marlene Rhynard Junior Television Playhouse On April 6, 1951, our Junior Class staged a splendid sensation called “The Zoozoh”. Yes, it was the event all were waiting for. It was the night of the Prom, an event that was given in honor of the Seniors by the Juniors. Upon entering, you saw that the coats were graciously checked by the escorts, and the ladies all clad in formals: headed for the ladies lounge to powder their noses. When they returned to their escorts, the couples were ushered by two waiters into the ballroom which was colorfully decked out in a Mardi Gras theme. A delicious dinner was served and after the ceremony speech was given, the Grand March proceeded. Dancing to the music of Bill Morthland was then enjoyed and as midnight descended the couples began to depart. An end to a wonderful night was now over. It is certain that it was enjoyed and remembered by all who attended. K. H. S.
