The 1959 Whippet Kosciusko High School Volume XI Dedication We have heard that “two heads are letter than one.” This must be true, for by their excellent knowledge of music, their unceasing work, and their occasional “lectures,” has come the betterment of both the music fields and the students of K.H.S. It is with sincere gratitude that we, the staff of ’59, dedicate this yearbook to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Wasson. Coleman Superintendent Many times the real recipients of growth which is derived from classroom exercises, club activities, and experiences such as producing a school Annual arc the teachers, supervisors, and administrators. The democratic process under good leadership creates good wholesome environment which makes possible the production of quality finished products. It has been both inspirational and educational to observe the Annual staff at work on this project, and I have no fear regarding the outcome of the final publication. The time you have spent in the production of this Annual has been leisure time, time that probably would not have been used in the pursuit of academic progress. How adoles- cents spend their time is so important. We older people are so often shocked with such statements: Fi'om an individual: “When it was to late, I discovered that God had given me great capacities and endowments.” From a doctor: “You are five years too late in becoming concerned about your health.” From a company executive: “Starting next month you can have a big job if you arc prepared to take it.” You still have time. May we who have observed the democratic processes in which you have produced this Whippet yearbook and we who view it through the years be challenged to use our time wisely. I appreciate the cooperation and help the faculty, student body, and the business and professional men of the community have given toward the completion of the Annual and congratulate the sponsor and entire Annual staff on a job well done. BAND The Kosciusko High School hand, win- ner of many honors, is well known throughout Mississippi. In the 1958 State Band Festival, Kosciusko was awarded superior ratings in concert, sight-reading, and field maneuvers. In the ’58 Solo and Ensemble Contest, K.H.S. received seven superiors out of twelve entries. This year the snappy, red-uniformed unit is being featured in First Chair of America, a yearbook presenting one hun- dred hands from across America. The hand adds its part to the school spirit by performing at all football games and pep- rallies.
