CLASSES .Teachers and students worked hand in hand to achieve the ultimate goal: creation of the well- rounded person. Tests, reports, daily assignments . . . all strengthened our academic education. Cramming for an exam was common, complete preparation . . . rare. When nearing the end of a subiect we always found more to learn . . . but never enough time. For those students who showed interest, the teachers tried to stimulate thought and develop their rninds. For those who did not, the teachers could only give a credit for the course, and an incomplete education.

School Board ls Nucleus of Administration Mr. Rayl serves as president of the school board. Providing Kokomo with an educational system which reflected the desires and needs of the commun- ity was one of the primary functions of the School Board. When answers were not known, the School Board was responsible for finding solutions. Under the leadership of Mr. Edward T. Rayl, the Board formulated the policies under which the schools operated. Dr. Rose provided the administrative knowl- edge to implement these policies. The Board consisted of seven members, each of whom served a three year term. Five were represent- atives of the city of Kokomo and were appointed by the city council. The other two were representatives of Center Township appointed by the iudges of the Circuit Court and the Superior Court. Each member of the School Board had to be able to help provide the proper education for Kokomo students. if he did not know the answer he had to know where to ind it. Opinions of experts, teachers, and parents were solicited by the Board as they tried to do what the community wanted. SCHOOL BOARD-Mr. Otis Cassidy, Mr. Glen Shelton, Mr. Morris J. Boyce, vice-president, Mrs. Robert Boyd, secretary, Mr. Edward T. Rayl, president, Mr. Merrill Brunk, treasurer, Mr. Charles F. Hathaway.
