We Prepared to Meet Our Future . VVith the memories of lazy summer afternoons tucked away in their minds, approximately 2300 students of Kokomo High School bought books and supplies, and enrolled in classes for the school year of 1956-57. liach student was given expert counseling and guidance in choosing a course that suited him best, The General Course was most popular, for it presented the students a chance to obtain a broader and more liberal education. Many students who had selected their future occupations enrolled in the Academic Course, the Commercial Course, the Home Economics Course, or the Vocational Course depending on their talents and interest. ln addition, each course had electives offered as related subjects, and it was in these classes that many students were introduced to new and interesting phases of education, In the following pages of this Sczrgassn, one may find an outline of each curriculum of study, whether it is the General, Academic, Commercial, Home Economies, or Vocational Course. A brief picture of the many electives taught at KHS is presented at the last of this section. lt is felt that KHS offers something special in classes to everyone. Let me see now. Stud ing in the General Course A Dissecting earth worms, studying microscopic organisms, and classifying the species of animals, these students are busy learning the principles of biology with the assistance of Mr. Cross. A'l-ook at that paramicium squirmln exclaims an excited biology student while peering through his microscope. Biology is the study of plant and animal life and to some three hundred freshmen and sophf omores of Kokomo High School, biology class oiters an opportunity for them to investigate the plant and animal kingdom. They learn many interesting things when look- ing through microscopes at several of the world's microscopic plants and animals, and by dissecting animals to End the structure of their bodies. Going on field trips gives pupils a chance to see nature first hand, even though they may come back covered with burrs and perhaps one or two of them may even have taken a fall into the creek. Four capable teachers are responsible for these classes. They are Mr. Walter Cross, Mr. Charles Franklin, Mr. foe Mullins, and Mr. Douglas North.
