Donating money in buying a kidney machine and contributing to the Cancer Foun- dation in the name of ex-Kofan Brian Thom showed the club's community interest. Profits from the stand also went into sponsor- ing a homeless child in Viet Nam. The club's annual breakfast and spring banquet concluded the club's highlights. Girls League was one of Kofa's most active clubs. The club held their annual big sister-little sister tea to welcome the incoming freshmen girls. Their other plans included selling cokes at all basket- ball games and giving Thanks- giving and Christmas baskets to needy families. Also at Christmas Girls League held a rummage sale. Another function of the club was to sponsor activities and programs for Kofa girls. One program that Girls League sponsored caused much contro- versy. The club brought in speak- ers from Yuma's women's liber- ation organization, and it was weeks before people stopped talk- ing about it. New members were let in each quarter and their sponsors were lVlrs. Slade and lVlrs. Cheatham. Environmental Club Science Club Angela Bryant Linda Elliott Peggy Heick Kevin Johnson Rachel Moran Being that this is it's third year at Kofa, the Environmental Club feels that it has established itself as a respected group and plans to be around awhile. The club feels that it is responsible for making the students at Kofa realize the environmental dangers surround- ing and affecting us all. Any student having a grade a- verage of 2.5 and above and in- terested in the fascinating game of chess should write a letter to the club. If accepted the rewards are varied, as the main goal of the Chess Club of Kofa High is to spread the interest of the time consuming and complicated game. Activities included challenging play in tournaments, both cross- town and state wide. The chess club sold peanut brittle, as they do annually, and raised money to pay expenses, as well as rooting Bobby Fisher on to victorv. The Chess Club sponsor is Mr. Cutrules. Bob Schulderberg David Smith Marsha Weeks Linell Williams Perla Williams Al Ariav Anita Cook Martin Dietrich Kathryn Duff As art is man's expression of his thoughts and feeling in visual form, the goal of the art club gives students a chance to create and discover for themselves, while becoming familiar with the prin- ciples of design. Painting, drawing, metal arts and pottery offered opportuni- ties for self expression while a- rousing interest to experiment with new materials and ideas in- spiration and creative ability com- prised of the production of their art work which was presented publicly. The Science Club at Kofa was organized to promote a larger, wider understanding of all sci- ence. Membership in the club is open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors sharing a 3.0 grade a- verage or better, and who have taken at least one lab science. These cities had approximately thirty- two students each. The dormi- tory halls were decorated to re- semble an actual city, with lines going down the hall to divide the different lanes of traffic. Tickets were given for moving violations such as speeding and reckless driving. There were eight cities, with four cities assigned to a county. Supai, Cocopah, and Poston were a few of the counties. The team really ripped in a 20-O contest against cross town rival Yuma High. This gave Kofa three straight victories over Yuma in this years mud bowl. The team was led by team captains, Junior Bob Guthrie, and Senior Bill Fox. One of the most interesting facts about this years team was the fact that Scott Baker a Ju- nior was O.B. Senior Mike Howel was hurt in the first game at Valley High and missed the rest of the season. Mike was also a team captain be- fore being hurt.
