Two hundred eighty- four high school journalists spent two weeks of the hot summer going to classes on the NAU Campus. The classes varied from beginning Dn0t0Qraphy to editors seminars for I a rge and small schools in the fields of yearbook and newspaper. Students stayed in dormitories and ate in one of the dining halls. Every afternoon a guest speaker came and spoke to the students on specialized fields of journalism. The workshoppers went on sightseeing trips to Oak Creek and the Grand Canyon. The workshop came to an end with an awards banquet and par- ties in the dorms, with the boys singing to the girls from outside. This was a good way to say good- bye to many good memories. annual N.C.C.J. N.C.C.J. was a small scale Any- town. It was a one-day experi- ence where teenagers share their thoughts on governmental, en- vironmental and racial problems as they effect our schools and nation today. The problems are not only awakened and brought out in the open, they are dis- cussed and the students learn ways in which they can help solve these modern day problems. Seventeen Kofans attended the 1970-71 N.C.C.J. held at Glen- dale Community College. They left Yuma early one morning on the same bus as Yuma Hign School, and attended meetings all day. In order to g0 to N.C.C.J., one must submit a let- ter to student council and be interviewed by paSI delegaies- HONORS AND Row-u.riEs 47
