The varsity quintet finished the season with a record of five wins and seventeen losses, however, the season was more exciting then the record indicates. The Kings started the season perfectly with a win over Calexico in the First Annual Kofa Invitational, but then lost to Yuma in the finals by one basket. The team got back their win- ning touch by beating their next three opponents, Casa Grande, Yuma, and.Holtville. In the Newport Beach Invitational Tournament, the Kings couldn't pick up a win in three tries. Back in Arizona, they had the same trouble as they lost their next five ball games, but then the Kings won a League contest against Coronado. At Scottsdale and Chandler the team played two of their most exciting games, losing to Scottsdale by one point, and to Chandler in overtime. Once again at home the Kings played up to par against Westwood, one of the top rated teams in the state, but still could not pick up a victory in overtime. The Kings scored a total of 1,299 points in 22 games and placed second in the Kofa Invita- tional. Senior, Don Gray, was the leading scorer on the team with a total of 359 points for an average of 17.1. He also led the team in rebounds, assists field goal per- centage and free throw percentage.
