Varsity Kings boast successful 7-3 season The first win over Phoenix West of 2-0 seem- ed to spark the team, and then the 21-13 vic- tory over No. 3-rated Mesa was a first since the two teams have been rivals. The next week the Kings took a short but long ride to encounter the crosstown rival, only to return with a 24-27 loss to the Crims. The following week the team bounced back to an impressive victory over Tempe High School with a score of 39-8. At home the next week, the Kings beat a strong pre-season pick, Casa Grande, by 32-0. On the road, our next encounter was against the con- ference champion, powerful McClintock High of Tempe, with a 28-14 loss for us. The Kings met once-impressive Westwood for the next game, defeating them 26-14. After seven games the Kings boasted a 5-2 record but fell to Coro- nado by 32-0, which was a blow to the defensive and offensive pride. After this hard loss the team managed a 13-7 win over powerful Scottsdale and made Homecoming a success for Kofa. The last game of the season was a record breaker. The Kings traveled to Chandler to break every previous rushing, passing, and scoring re- cord and to defeat the opponent by 41-14. lllil Z Varsity Grid ders kick off for an excellent class AAA season before a capacity crowd.
