Continued learning Girls' State Girls' State, sponsored by the American Legion Aux- iliary was initiated to educate young people in the functions of government by direct participation. It is composed of a gathering of 248 outstanding girls. Dele- gates are chosen on the basis of Leadership, academic achievements, and personality. These girls can be anything from exchange students to student body presidents. Probably the most impressive thing about Girls, State are the girls themselves. Our Girl Staters were: Becky Arnold, Gloria Hays, Cathy Higueria and Carol Livingston. s - igkq is Boys' State Boys' State, also sponsored by American Legion Aux- iliary is a mythical 51 st state. Using the Arizona laws as guide lines the delegates set up city, county. and State governments. The first few days were spent campaigning for offices and listening to guest speakers. The most outstanding boys in Arizona were chosen to attend Boys' State. Representing Kofa were: Deryl McCain, Regan Kelly, Steve Schmitt. George Martinez and Steve Dixon. These young men brought back with them 2 better understanding of our democratic form of govern- I'l'lCl'liI.
