THE MAN LTJG JOHN KELVIN KOELSCH was serving with a Navy Helicopter Rescue Unit in North Korea in July 1951. In an attempt to rescue a downed Marine pilot, his helicop- ter was shot down in enemy territory. For nine days he led his crew toward the allied lines, but they were finally captured. Even as a pris- oner he inspired faith and confidence in his men. He died of malnutrition on October 16, 1951. For his conspicious gallantry ... at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty LTJG KOELSCH was awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR. ZJ

Edwards graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1968 and following com- issioning served in destroyers SPROSTON (DD-577) and frigates RAMSEY (FFG-2) and AINSWORTH (FF- 1090). He was assigned to naval forces ashore in Vietnam and most recently served at sea as the Chief Staff Officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron 32. Commander Edwards received a Master of Science degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1979 and in 1986 graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. While assigned ashore, Commander Ed- wards was a Congressional liaison officer for Navy re- search and development projects. Commander Edwards and his wife, Beth Ann, were married in Pearl Harbor in 1969. They have a son, Wil- liam, and a daughter, Victoria.
