But it wasn't long however before things began to shape up and the staff went back to work Once more. Pictures were being clipped, layouts were being made, receipt books were being filled, and the light in the Annual burned long 'after 3:00 P. M. As money making projects, aside from advertising and book sales, they sold seat cushions and had bake sales. With the faithful supervision of Mr. Prather and the ambition of the staff, we can rightfully say that the 54 K is the best yet. Loretta Spaur, a fresh- man, and Clara Andrews, a sophomore, both received four A's on their report cards. Not to be outdone, George Watson, a junior, captured five. Ask any senior what he or she thinks of socialized medicine. You'l1 get an answer, pro or con. They have been giving reports in modern problems. The Knoxville Teachers Association had a potluck at their January 27 meet- ing. Since the meeting was cducational, Mr. Kolk ar- ranged for Mr. W. Henry Galbreth as the 'guest speaker. T 1: Farce lNCREASE IN ANNUAL EXPLAINED Ulf we pay five ddUars,we expect to get our five dol- lars worth,N explained Cleo Nichols in a conversation about the rise in price of Une year's annual over lasts Although not bitterly opposed, he wonders what he's getting for his extra money. iiiumssns TELL THE STORY After studying the en- rollment in some of the classes, one might draw various conclusions. Judging from the number of students in the class, commercial law is a popu- lar subject. If all the h3 law students become lawyers, would the field become overcrowded? Driver's traunngis also a well-liked course. In the fifth period class , only 16 out of M7 taking the course don't have driver's licenses. Maybe the 31 who can drive lay claim to the fact that one namr ceases to learn some- thing new and different. Commercial classes have a good representation and therefore, KHS might be able to help obliterate the secretarial shortage. At least they'll try. College prep has 28 stu- dents and if this isanin- dication of the number going on to college, HHS should be weHdepresented. Since physecal education is repuired, most of the students should be healthy and happy. Hy Marjorie Dewit Special Feature Guess Whovycoevoolnepage ll Last year the staff went in debt, because the sale of books and the advenise- ments didn't make enough money to pay for the book, so the school board had to set aside enough money to pay the deficit. This year the price has gone up in order to pay for the book completely. The amount of pages will be the same-eighty, with a twelve page supplement. The staff's adviser, Mr. Prather, said, HOne rea- son our annual costs more is that the paper is of a good quality, and the cov- er is of gostly material.H Offset type is used and this enables the staff to print or type anywhere on the page. With block en- graving the ogy had to all be in one group or in one spot on the page. Thus the offset type makes for a better page layout and also a more attractiv e looking page. This year two staffs make up the annual group, the advertising and the selling of the book and the people who make up the pages. The staff has been very co-operative with Mr . Prather. This is his first teaching position and he had to decide whether to have an annual. 31 4: Don Metcald, Bob Bruinekool, Orval Allard. All eyes are on Sharon's hat! Y-Teen's piano player! Slap, bang, here we are again, jolly T-Teens girls. This group consists of 140 girls this year. New ideas seemed to spring out of nowhere. Some of these ideas were the five different clans that were organized at the beginning of the year and Chore Da which required each girl to do various chores for some boy. These ideas and the faithful leadership of Janet Price have enabled the Club to have a successful year. This group gathers every activity period in the study hall to hold business meetings and to enjoy some type of entertainment, such as singing, skits, or panel discussions. To make money, the club was in charge of the Christmas Party, each Clan was required to make at least S520 for the year, bake sales, were heldg and pop- corn or fudge were sold in the halls. We paced through many new and novel formations and played many inspiring marches to help cheer our team to victory. In marching contest we competed at Mt. Pleasant and received a. II rating La Vonne Nolte and Myrna Anderson each received a I rating in twirling. In concert band we had something else to make us proud. Through the efforts of the Band Parents we were able to have new uniforms for our mem- bers. During this phase of band some of our brass players went to Ottumwa to hear the Chicago Symphony Brass Ensemble. Our small groups including a cornet solo, violin solo, flute solo, two alto saxophone solos, clairenettrio, cornet trio, and brass sextette went to Colfax where they represented our school well. The whole band had an opportunity to show off their skills and their new uniforms by attending Drake Relays in April, Viesha and Pella Tupil Time in May. With this years full schedule we know many people had an opportunity to view and praise Knoxville's worthy band. 53 Lvrril, T'Yg n I I I I I h. z Q A .1 And he's off!
