N 'NIJ 'Nl 1 Xll i HND U DIN! 11 x ll 1 x ll 1 ll l X 1 11kv1 s 1 4 ll UND l W N 1 ll 111 1 ul 1 ps pr 4 K 1 1 1 x 1X l CONCERT BAND Ah' Rest and relaxat1on' It was a re l1ef for the band members to enter the concert season If p0SS1bl6 1t was even more enjoyable than marchmg band be cause they dldnt have to plck em up and lay em down Everythxng from Jazz to the classxcs has been played by the band, as shown by two of thelr selectxons Tlme Out for a Jam SCSSIOH and Overture EFOICR The sponsorshlp of the Llons Club has been of great ald to the band thls year by galnlllg wlder communlty recognltlon for them and helpmg to buy several pleces of new equlpment Wlth the proceeds of the hlgh school band concert which was spon sored by the LIOHS, a new set of street drums IS to be purchased Prov1ng themselves to be true basket ball fans and loyal supporters, the band members journeyed to Des Momes to play at the g1rl's d1str1ct tournaments In Splte of our loss to Runnells, spxrlts were kept hlgh by thelr st1rr1ng muslc Shortly after the end of the f1rst semester the band room was vacated and equlpment was moved to the new quonset blllldlllg across the street from the hlgh school One half of the bulldlng IS gnen to band act1v1t1es whxle the other half IS used for an agrlcultural workshop and classroom Thls move was helpful not only to band members, but to the typlng students who had been forced to type ln rhythm w1th practlcmg drummers On Aprll 15 the band went to Oska loosa to enter the state muslc contest The selectlons played were Overture Erolca and March of the Steel Men Dlrector Harold Hall expects to have an even better band next year smce the organlzatxon w1ll be made up almost en tlrely of experlenced members l , . l'A.' l.'2 IN l!Ai'KHl!ly1111 Sirpll-ss, 31:1 'sl1:1ll Myfms, IJ1111 N:':1l. MARCHING BAND Before the school year was even well under way the marching band trudged nightly to the stadium for one solid hour of practice. As they watched those first few awk- ward practices, people began to wonder what had become of the good bands Knoxville used to have. However, under thc competent direction of Mr. Harold Hall. the band steadily improved until they were an organization for the towns- people to be proud of. Of couise the place where the band did most of its performing was at the home football games The crowds were thrilled by the snappy cadence the gold trimmed black uniforms and the familiar strains of Onward Knoxville 'X different routine was performed at every football game. The exacting pre- cision of these routines was one of the things that helped to make this year's band outstanding. On Sadie Hawkins day the band mem- bers joined with the rest of the Dogpatch- ers to march in the annual parade. Though bare-footed and bearded, they still maintained their usual peppy step.
