HPHUSPIEIE S It is Spring, and many moods have passed since Yesterday. Autumn leaves swirling about white pillars, Intent on some obscure purpose, Then covering the tender earth against winter: W'hite virgin snouy sgting down from the heavens to cover all,' W'hite earth, frozen lake, evergreens powdered with white, All is whiteness save blue sky. Could I ask anything more? Then, early Spring-mud, rain, April vents its tears on wakening earth. W'e loved it all. Now Spring, green new sznellsfill the air. Yes, now it is Spring, and many moods have passed since yesterday. Our aloneness at the wide, open door, The laughter because we were so young: do we realize that we are so young? Yes, and disappointment. But we sprang up from all this like trodden blades of grass: We are as intent on our purpose as the leaves about the white pillars, tossing a dare to the years. Now it is Spring, and we are sad. Many moods have passed since the first Spring. We are sad to say au revoir, then farewell. But it is Spring, and these things must be. Then, when it is our Spring, and there are no more au revoirs- just farewell- I shall be sad. But it is Spring, and these things must be. Carol Leberman, Third Form 37
