SE IUH CL SS PHUPHEEY ln nineteen hundred and sixty-two, A famous scientist, out of the blue, Headed a rocket ship straight to the moon, One starry night in the middle ofjune. This daring young woman, Gene Landis by name, By discovering planets had earned a great fame, And now she was tired, in need of a rest, So she'd flown to the moon, the place she loved best. With Ann Coleman, the writer, taking notes all the way Never blinking an eyelash, but oh! so blase. And when they arrived, through spyglasses they found, What the old class was doing back there on the ground. Gladys la French, televisions queen, By swooning millions was heard and seen. Her exotic dress, designed by Pat Wood, Was chartreuse nylon with a black sable hood. Broadway was presentingj. Feiner's new show, A brilliant production starring Ann Faux. Catharine Krieger had organized the ballet, And the show was a hit from the opening day! Pat Hilliard had arranged and selected the sets. Shall we go to the show? Said Landis, A'Oh let's. While out in the lobby sat charming Pat White, Selling pineapple crush by the gallon at night! Corey turned her binoculars West with a cry, Look, Gene, look over there, for surely I spy In Hollywood Juniors giving a tremendous soireev- Her three-dimensional movie is now on display l And standing beside her, as if in a dream, Were Ruth Wood and Fritz, eating chocolate ice-cream, While off in a corner sat Sugar DeVoe, Who ran a success school where starlets could go. And Joy Rambach surprisingly had a kindergarten there, ,lust to keep the children out in the air. Now the spyglasses swung a little bit east And focused on Weiser, enjoying a feast Of corned beef and cabbage and home-grown potatoes- 110

SE IUH PUEM FIRST SONNET Blow softly, O ye restless winds of spring, For we are young and know not what we do. Blow softly, kiss each young green living thing And let us to our budding hearts be true. Fall gently, warm spring rainsg fall softly on Our mirrored images within the lake, Where, like Narcissus, in the early dawn We see a hope that is too soon heartache. Softly, for we are foolish and alone, Gently, for we have stardust in our eyes, Some dreams may failfmisfortune comes unknown We must find faith in love that never dies. Come gently, O ye winds and rains of spring, And ever in our hearts sweet chimes will ring. HANNELE ROBINSON 109

To say nothing of Turtle Ridge's prized tomatoes- While down near the waters of the Rio Grande, Texas was breaking in a new cow hand, And staying with her at the ranch for a while, Barbara Stone painted in her unique style. Crosby had graduated from Tufts with a fancy diploma And managed a laboratory up in Oklahoma. Pat Shoemaker, receptionist, kept the files straight, Efficiency plus was her outstanding trait. Head-nurse Martin 'patrolled the floor, While Jean Wenzel flirted with internes galore! Mary Evert in Chicago was creating a stir, Modeling Fuz, the new plastic fur, This had been the brainstorm of one Margaret Eaton, Who at inventing could not be beaten. Tina was psychoanalyzed because her red rabbit Popped into her dreams, a terrible habit. Dr. Matkthaler, and Pat Bell, her assistant, Helped calm Tina's nerves and make her resistant, They gave her some pills called Patterson's Cure, Said Landis, Remember Joan? Answered Coleman, Oh sure In Pittsburgh Trudy Stephens was giggling like mad, While scolding her children, who she said had been bad. And in the same city, Maxlowned a cafe With bright lights and laughter, and music so gay. Connie Cluett sang her torch songs to the audience nightly, Chiddy leading the chorus ever so sprightly, Dana Mae Volker was always on hand, Directing her rhythmic, world-famous band. Nowiup farther north the lenses were swung, Back to the city in which they'd begun, And into the oflice ofjeanne Rouss the linguist, Who pored over documents shaking a fist And screamed to her secretary, Miss Charlotte Scott, To see if Charl spoke Hindustani, or not. O'Connor was laying plans for a new city hall, She said it would reach eight hundred stories in all. Robin, the editor of a brand new Review, Sat writing editorials on what one should do.
