We hope that through our yearbook we have protrayed a span of these pathways to the future upon which each of us travels. Education is in itself a wide and heavily traveled pathway. There are many forks in this pathway-each leading to a goal set by those who are traveling upon it. Just as some roads are unpaved, so are some pathways to success unpaved. There are many rough and threatening sections However, if the goal is kept in view, all difficulties can be surmounted, and the pathways will have served their purpose of furnishing a means of guidance. With all these things in mind, we present to you the 1965 SANDBUR. Administration Performs Valuable The high school diploma may be the entering wedge for the iob, but knowl- edge, skills, and desirable citizenship traits are demanded if you are to od- vonce or remain in contention. Ralph Harbison indiana State .,...... M.S. Superintendent School-education-graduation-iobs-citizenship-are all words that you have used and discussed while attending Knox High School. The meaning of these words is perhaps different for each of you. The School Board, your teachers, and your parents hope you have grown in wisdom, iudgment, and ambition during the past year. To our seniors, we wish the best of what life can give. To our underclassrnen, we look forward to working with you that your dreams may be a reality in the years to come. KWWMW Roger Laramore Indiana ........ M.S. High School Principal James Hamblin Ball State ........ M.S. Junior High Principal Although the chief purpose of education is growth in knowledge, it is also important in the formation of habits. One of the good habits is being on the iob every day and seeing the job through. Modern industry is quite concerned with employees having good attendance. lt has been proved that there is a direct correlation between school attendance and attendance on the iob after high school. Also the schools have proof that poor attendance and poor grades run together. My thought to you would be that you be in school every day. lt will help your grades now, will help you acquire a job after high school, and still later will help you keep that iob. eewfafwe.. 4 Services to School System SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS: James Polen, President, Art Yurilas, Treasurer, Ralph Haribson, Superintend- ent, Leroy Gudeman, member, Harold Weinberg, Secretary. Mathematics Knox High School Opens the Pathway l lN THE GUIDANCE room Mr. James counsels students in preparing for their future. A school offers many pathways for a student to follow, but the greatest of these by far is the pathway to knowledge. Taking part in activities, meeting and making friends, enioying games, parties, and dances are all important but the crite- rion of every student should be the acquiring of knowledge and the developing of the men- tal power. Knox High School of- fer.s a varied curriculum to meet these needs-liberal art sub- jects such as English, foreign languages, mathematics and the social studies to develop the mind, cultural subiects such as art and music to encourage appreciation, and practical subjects such as stenography, bookkeeping, agriculture, home ec, and shop to prepare the student for everyday living. The school opens the gates to these pathways, it is up to the students to follow them to success. The play is an improbable farce in three acts which is proclaimed as one of Noel Coward's greatest works. Karen Nichols did an excellent job as Mad- ame Arcati, a spiritualist who has contact with the supernatural. The humor of play is displayed in the scenes where Madame Ar- cati brings back from the dead the first wife of Charles Condomin, who is now faced with two wives. Pam Shaw and Connie Tol- son, the two wives of Charles, who were terribly jealous of each other and attempted togain Charles' love away from the other, made their parts most realistic. John De Somer, the husband who was torn between two loves, portrayed the confused husband in a humorous manner. Although the season record was not too good, it was not indicative of the many fine moments of football played. Throughout the year many key players were ham- pered by injuries. Knox lost the first three games to three good teams: Plymouth, Bremen, and New Carlisle. The Redskins finally got into the win column with a i3-7 triumph over R. Prairie. Knox again dropped three in a row to N. Liberty, Rensselaer and Twin Lakes. Knox gained their second victory of the season with a 20-7 win over Walkerton. On May 29 the class of '65, full of hopes and ambitions, thinking about the past years, the present rushing days, and the unknown future, reached their long waited goal- graduation. Their thoughts will always linger some on their days as high school students. How enthusiastically they had led the Junior High School as green freshmen and anxiously prepared their courses of education. Study, study, study seemed to be the theme for them as silly sophomores. To climax their iolly junior year, they presented the prom, Singing in the Rain , which was enjoyed by the students and will long be remem- bered. And now as mighty seniors they led the school with high ideals and proud ambitions. Graduation always marks the end of three wonderful high school years. They look back many times on those happy care-free days, but also they will look to the future with eager an- ticipation. Christine Neander earned the highest scholastic grades for three and a half years of high school and thus became the valedictorian of the class of l965. Christine left Knox in her freshman year and enrolled in Valparaiso High School until her Senior year when she returned to K.H.S. for her final high school year. Christine was a semi- finalist in the National Merit Scholar- ship Test, a great recognition of a stu- dent's scholastic ability. She was an enthusiastic cheerblock member, a member of the Shakespearean Club, and also devoted some of her time to work in the library at the school. She plans to further her education at Indiana University where she plans to maior in Political Science. The last picture has been taken and the last copy has been typed. With a heavy sigh we sit back and present the l965 SAND- BUR to you. As this book grew, it took the work and coopera- tion of many. We are indebted to the faculty for allowing class interruptions necessary for many of the pictures in this book. We must not forget the one person who made this book possible, Mrs. Hite. Without her experi- ence and assistance we would have been lost. So here it is. We sincerely hope that all of you will find cherished memories between these pages. AH, AT LAST it's finished.
