We have a varied program in the courses offered to stu- dents. Some subjects primarily teach us to think and do logical reasoning: others give us manual skills to help us in our home life and future occupations. All are equally valuable in form- ing a well-rounded individual. In addition to our studies KHS offers many activities in which we may participate. These activities help us in learning valuable ways to spend our leisure time. They also teach us the important requisite of getting along with other people. After leaving Knox High We hope that We will put into prac- tice the theories we have learned here. In all our experiences at KHS we are learning to live while living to learn. Our entire school was saddened last November 26, lifdti death of one of our most loved and highly respected teachers. Although he is no longer with us, his courage, humility, hu- mor, and sincerity will he an inspiration to us for many years to come. Because he taught us with patience, inspired us with confidence, and gave us encouragement when we needed it, he will always live in the hearts of his former students. So it is with sorrow but also pride that we, the Annual Staff, dedicate the 1959 Sandlmur to the memory of one of our school's finest citizens, lVlr. James Tucker. chool life I 5 idly. DRAMA STUDENTS TRY THEIR TALENTS The Shakespearean Club is composed of only those people 5 who take Speech and Dramatics. The meetings held each Friday consist of a short business meeting followed by a program which usually Consists of either pantomirnes, short skits or readings. The ,club this year sponsored a dance after the Judson basketball game and another entitled HShakespearean Shamblesf' At the latter they had an orchestra, chorus line fboysl, and musieal acts all by members of the club. On April'29. the club and thei members of the Senior English class went to Chicago to the Shubert Theatre and saw the play, Music Man. They also put on a lyceum pro- gram for the entire student body. Congratulations to all of them f-we like to win. KNOX GRIDDERS HAVE FIRST This year's team had a successful year in winning five games and losing four. The squad consisted of fifteen seniors, seven juniors. and seven sophomores. We placed third in the Northern State Conference behind Bremen and Washington Clay. We were very honored to have Bill Byer and Bink Benninghoff winning places on the All-Conference first team. Bill Barnett. Fred Byer, and Norm Bern- ing were placed on the second team. Larry Dembinski was named for honorable mention. We were very proud of the team this year and hope the winning spirit will continue through the coming years. WINNI ln the opening football game of the sea- son, the Redskins traveled to Nappanee. The Redskins seemed to have first-game jitters during the first half and the power- ful Bulldog backs took advantage of this fact and rolled up a 14-0 count at the half. They went on to win 20-0. The Morocco Beavers scored six points in thc second period but were stopped in their tracks by a hard fighting Knox line after the Redskins had tallied their first TD and converted the extra point. The final score was T-6 in favor of Knox. On September 19. Knox was host to the highly touted Bombers from Rensselaer. Knox full of revenge after last year's trouncing of 30-0 by the Bombers, marched in the third quarter to score a TD and the extra point to down the Bombers 7-6. The powerful Colonials of Washington Clay journeyed to Knox on September'26 to be the opponents of the Redskins in their first Northern State Conference game. On the first play of the game the Redskins number one quarterback was injured. The Colonials capitalized on this fact and won the game 21-7. After being trounced by the Clay Colo- nials the Redskins came back to start a three game winning streak by winning their first conference game by a 12-6 score over New Carlisle. This year's homecoming was a brighter contest than it had been in the past. Knox racked up its highest score of the season when they ripped Delphi 41-26. On October 17, the gridders traveled to North Judson where they were to play their archrivals, the North Judson Blue Jays. The Blue Jays scored all of their eight points in the first quarter. The Red- skins tallied in the second and third quar- ters and beat the Blue Jays 20-8. The last game of the season was played with Bremen. Bremen who won the con- ference this year trounced the Redskins 21-7. Of rourse one of the highlights of the year was the receiving of our class rings, which we so proudly displayed to everyone. Wa: were also immensely thrilled as we began making preparations for the Junior-Senior Prom. We were well represented in all activities and can justly be proud of our class. Our sponsors. Miss Richardson, Mrs. Amos. Mr. Simmons and Mr. Branham, have been very helpful in their advice and counsel. It is with eagerness, yet with a little regret that we look forward to being Seniors next year.
