This award is given to the stu- dent whose record exemplifies clean living, sportsmanship, athletic ability, support of schools activities and good scholarship. He is selected with careful consideration by a committee consisting of all iunior and senior high school rincipals and coaches, the superintendent of schools and a representative of the school board. We've added a spirit to the gym that would otherwise seem hollow. To make us more noticeable all the members purchased red collars with white letters. With the money we made we bought red beanies with K's in front. Many have complimented us on our appearance and school spirit. Being featured in the local newspaper made us proud. M505 gpm tw The Girls' Athletic Association, Juniors, is a recreation club composed of interested girls in the seventh and eighth grades. They meet every Thurs- day after school in the Junior High Gym for the purpose of providing wholesome recreation for those who wish to come. Some of the activities which have been presented are basketball, volley- ball, deck tennis, end ball, ping pong, bowling, and dancing. Everyone is encouraged to use their talents in skits, pantomines, and singing. To earn extra money in addition to the nominal dues, this year the girls have run the coat check at the basketball games. The money goes for our page in the annual and for our awards, besides other miscellaneous expenses. To earn an award one must have forty points with two points given for each meeting attended. As awards the seventh graders receive a two-inch K, while the eighth graders receive a G.A.A. pin. As special activi- ties this year the G.A.A. have held a couple of dances with the Jr. High boys as guests and also a skating party. 33 xv SECOND ROW: Gail Nickols, Reporter, Sandra Mc- Mullin, Secretary. It performs before the kick-off and between halves of our home football games. During these half-time shows we try to combine snappy marches, school songs, and popular tunes with novel forma- tions and march steps to make interesting entertainment for the fans in the bleachers. This year's marching band consisted of 82 members. In August the group again performed in the annual Mardi Gras at the Riverview Amusement Park in Chicago. On October I2 they took part in the Dairy Parade down State Street in Chicago. This parade honored the milk and milk products producers of the Mid-West, and it was tel- evised over WGN TV. In March the band as o whole took part in the Northern Indiana Band Contest. We have participated in this event For the past eight years and have received outstanding honors many times. On May 4, 1958, we presented the Spring Concert. The band is very fortunate in having the co-operation and backing of the Band Boosters' Association. Our main goal as iuniors was to raise enough money to present the prom in all its splendor and our main money- making proiect was the sale of stationery. Of course, one of the highlights of the year was receiving our class rings, which we so proudly displayed to every- one . Many members of the class have participated in the school functions and organizations and we are very proud of their enthusiasm. Our sponsors, Mrs. Hite, Mr. Tucker, Mr. Longfellow, and Mr. Harrington, have been very helpful in their advice and counsel. 87 CLASS OFFICERS Earl Eggert . Vice-President Lynn Dowd . . All histories go back to the beginning, so we go back to the beginning of our high school ca- reer to start ours. As Freshmen in high school we spent our first year at the junior high building. .At the opening of our Sophomore year, unsophisticated and green as we were, we suffered the pnusual horror of wrong classrooms, upperclassmen, locker trouble, and various other imaginary orrors. As Juniors, we felt more venturesome and learned the ways of upperclassmen. We chose pink and silver as our class colors, and the pink tea rose as our flower, and May the ropes of the past ring the bells of the future , as our motto. During this year, we really became important in school life. As a climax to this year we breathed a sigh of happiness and yet of regret, for our Prom had been a success, but it marked the end of our Junior year. Our last year will remain forever in our minds, with all the Senior Activities. With the aid of our capable sponsors we worked on several different projects so that we might have a nice Senior Trip . The first semester was over in a flash. It seemed as though we had just started school be- fore we were being fitted for our graduation robes and ordering our graduation announcements. Baccalaureate and Commencement was one of the most remembered events of our Senior life. 96 9 f nw f ,. 5 ?42ef 'x'Xf7 5 ' fiifiw H, , 1 f , fifgfgi-SH mf f I.
