We have attempted to portray the events of our school life, the fun we have had, and the friends we have made. lt is our hope that in the years to come you will look back over this book and recap- ture these moments of fun. 2 X Sfacultq ml-me ' One of the most important factors in having a good school is to have a well qual- ified faculty. We are very proud of our teachers, and we shall always remember not only the knowledge we have gained from them but also the advice and counselling they have given us. ln grateful recognition of their steadfast, intelligent guidance and service to the Knox Schools we solute them! fidminiatnation 1. 156, Y-.5 95 'Om- ' ml of High School MR, SECOR: Superintendent of Schools MR. With his friendly smile he has already gained many friends among us students, and we hope that he likes Knox and will be with us for many years. He has helped in his administrative work by a cooperative school board composed of Mr. Zechiel, president, Mr. Cook, secretary, and Mr. Myers, treasurer. Our very efficient Mr. Laromore was the principal of our high school and again guided us with understanding and enthusiasm. Mr. Hamblin, whom we all knew well as a teacher, became the principal of our junior high. school and already has gained the confidence and respect of the students. We students at Knox feel that we are most fortunate in having these three men, Mr. Secor, Mr. Laramore, and Mr. Hamblin, to guide us in our last six years in the Knox Schools. This year's cheerblock did a very fine iob of backing the football and basketball teams. The girls wore white blouses with red scarves and the boys wore white shirts or red sweaters. All had the white mittons with red bows on them. At the sectional we had the best cheering section and certainly made a colorful picture with our red and white outfits and our red and white shakers. Our cheerblock was coached by our cheerleaders with the aid of the sponsors, Mrs. Hite and Mr. Campanello. We certainly wish to pay tribute to our cheerleaders, who kept up the enthusiasm of the group throughout the entire game. Also our president, Pauline Engel, and secretary, Mary Ann Carpenter, were very influential behind the scenes for the success of this organ ization . In addition to our cheering activities the cheerblock and cheerleaders sponsored a very suc- cessful Sadie Hawkins dance. More than 6,000 band directors from the 48 states, Canada and Mexico attend the clinic each year. Bands are chosen to perform from their past records in contests, performances, recommendations which they receive from the selecting committee. Since this clinic was begun ten years ago, only eighteen bands have been selected to perform. The purpose of the Mid-West Clinic is to acquaint the band directors with new music publications of the current year. All music performed is micre-filmed the shown on screen so that the directors may get an idea of how the music looks on the score as well as how its sounds. While performing at the clinic, we were very honored to be under the direction of many well known and distinguished band masters of the United States and Canada. These masters were: John Paynter, director of bands, Northwestern University, Donald R. Minx, director of bands, Arkansas State College, Jonesboro, Arkansas, Dr. Raymond F. Dverak, director of bands, University of Wisconsin, Nile W. Hovey, director of bands, Jordan College of Music, Indianapolis, Commander Charles Brendler, United States Navy Band, and Maurica deCelles, Canadian band director. Our band received many letters and telegrams from directors attending the convention felling us their reactions to the clinic. These are examples: Your program held the audience enraptured throughout. . . Your band really preformed superbly, and everybody there was thrilled with their music . . . Your band played with expression that would surpass that of many of our finest college bands . . . l was thrilled at the high standards of musicanship that is the Knox High School Band. The trip to the Mid-West Clinic could not have been possible without the close co-operation of Mr. Secor, our superintendent of Schools, The Knox Board of Education, The Band Boosters Association, the merchants of the City of Knox, and the many close friends of the band. Much credit should go to our capable director, Mr. Hughes. He has worked hard with the band for nine years and hasbrought the band the reputation it now has. Band SAWNHWV Q ,au I! To finance our activities, we farm a small farm, raise swine, sell garden seeds, and pick up waste corn. At the present our Chapter net worth is about Sl,000.00. We are helping our members by having a gilt chain and a Landrace boar and by owning specialized equipment that the members can use. For entertainment we attended a baseball game in Chicago, had two picnics and swimming parties, a football game at Purdue, a father and son banquet, and a pest control party. ln addition to the contest results listed elsewhere, we are entered in three State contests and the National Chapter contests. Our Chapter will also sponsor iudging teams in the County and District iudging contests to be held late this spring and summer. The teams are Poultry, Dairy, Grain, Entemology, Forestry, Livestock, and Land iudging. We also reward outstanding individuals of our Chapter each spring. Last year the following awards were given: seven jackets, eight K's, sixteen chevrons, two stars, public speaking medal, farm mechanics medal, Dekalb award, Agricultural Award, and the Larry Enyeart Star Chapter Farmer Award.
