LCDR Mark B. Yarosh, USN XO DEC ' 88 to JUN ' 90 A 1976 graduate of Wright State University, Lieuten- ant Commander Rynda was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School (OCS) program. LCDR Rynda served as Damage Control Assistant and later Navigator aboard USS CANISTEO (AD 99) and Com- bat Information Center Ottker aboard USS LUCE (DDG 38). He then served as Officer in Charge of the Department of Naval Science at Great Lakes Maritime Academy. Following Department Head School in Newport, RL he served as Operations Officer aboard USS UNDERWOOD (FFG 36) and subsequently as Leading . iiti-Surlace Warfare Instructor at Surface W.irfare Officer School. LCDR Rynda has been .iw.irded the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy .Vthievement Medal (2nd award). Meritorious Unit (.cimmendalion. Battle E (3rd award), and Naval Sea S(i ice Ribb(jn (3rd award). LCDR R nda reported for duty as Executive Officer, USS KNOX (FF-1052) in June, 1990. He is married to the former Miss Eliza- beth Provost and resides in Huntington Beach, CA. Lieutenant Commander ' arosh graduated from Villa- nova Universit in 1974 and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Lraining Corps program. LCDR ' arosh served as the Engineering Of- ficer aboard USS DIRECT (MSO 430), Engineering Officer and laiei ExetLiti e Officer aboard USS LEADER (MSO 490), Staff Mine Countermeasures Officer at mine Squadrcjii TWELVE and subsequently Mine Group TWO. He was temporarily assigned as Officer in Charge, Mine Countermeasures Detach- ment, COMSOL.VNI where during his tenure, he embarked in USS PLYMOUTH ROCK (LSD 29) and circumnavigated South America conducting bilateral exercises with the South American Navies. He was se- lected f(jr and completed Department Head School in Newport, RL, during which time he won the City of Newport award for leadership. LCDR Yarcjsh has been awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal (2nd award). Meritorious Unit Commendation (2nd award), Battle E , Naval Sea Service Ribbon (3rd award), and National Defence Ser ice Medal. He received his per- manent appointment on 1 DEC, 1983. LCDR Yarosh also reported for duty as Prospective Executive Offi- cer of A ' ENGER (MCM 1) jDrior to assuming Execu- tive Officer of USS KNOX (FF-1052). . V if? LCDR Douglas C. CDR. Gregory L. Maxwell, USN Commanding Officer Commander Maxwell was born in San Jose, Cali- fornia in October of 1947. He attended the Uni- versity of Utah in Salt Lake City and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Psychology. He was commissioned as an Ensign on 19 December. 1969 after completing four years in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps pro- gram. As a seafarer, he has served as Damage C -itrol Assistant and Engineering Officer in US ' THEODORE E. CHANDLER (DD-717); Weaf, ms Officer in USS BERKELEY (DDG- 15); Fit;; Secretary and Flag Lieutenant to Com- mander, L ' nited States South Atlantic Force: and Executive Officer in USS BAGLEY (FF-1069). Ashore, he has served as Head, Surface Warfare Training for the Chief of Naval Operations and attended the National War Collage at Fort Leslie J. McNair. Washington, DC. and the Defence Language Institute at Monterey, California. Commander Maxwell ' s personnel decorations in- clude the Meritorious Service Medal. Navy Com- mendation Medal with two gold stars. Navy .Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, and various Vietnam Service Medals. The Cap- tain is married to the former Diane Duckworth of Magna, Utah. They have two children, Mat- thew and Jennifer.
