‘Oc Gale KNOX COLLEGE GALESBURG, ILLINOIS Che Knox Family A term used to include all of Knox College is “The Knox family.” This somewhat ambiguous term certainly illustrates a strange family —a family made up of a great variety of faces, minds, shapes and sizes. It might be said that the mother is Academics and the father, Good Times—this is not al- ways a happy union, but so far, a somewhat satis- factory relationship has been worked out. The ensuing pages present the Knox family. This colossus that cost the student body a pretty penny was built at the order of Barry Stone, social coordinator. We will never forget the Luau party, set in a tropical Polynesian jungle, or Las Vegas Night when many millions of dollars changed hands. There was the infamous debate, followed by several interesting repercus- sions. There was the continuous liberal- conservative battle. Phi Gamma Delta At Gamma Deuteron 1961-62 was the year of the Cheny Cup, symbol of achieve- ment in the tangibles and the intangible within the framework of the spirit of brotherhood. Generally speaking it was a good year for Fijis athletically (varsity and intramural), academically (at least the at- tempt was there — two Phi Beta Kappas, numerous correspondence courses) , socially (She Gamma Delta grew, Roses bloomed, and the Fiji Island was designated as a disas- ter area), and fraternally (enthusiasm and participation were at an all time high— and so were the brothers). It was a year of pride, of humility, of hopeful achievement —it was a successful year. 84 Phi Ma H ere's to the Phi Mu's and another year packed with moments to remember: The coveted scholarship trophy—the square dance — homecoming and Avis as our own Wilhemina— Rush with its hula lesson (not the twist) and our very own riverboat. The Pink Lady docked at Harbor Light and we embarked with the ‘twinkling twenty’ who only added more fun and excitement. Who can forget the Monday night laundry club, Lincoln’s birthday, breakfast at dawn, pledge duties, tests, and parties, and finally, | nspiration — for pledges and actives? Con- gratulations to Jackie, always our queen: and best wishes to the girls who ‘‘accom- plished things.” We'll miss the seniors, but invite them back often to share an even bigger and better year to come. The traditional rivalry seemed at an end when the Pi Phis joined with another group who helped us celebrate our Pi Phi Pow-Wow. Ho mecoming saw Jane Aarnes as queen with Laurie Hall and Dale Klama in her court. |In March, Dale went on to be Military Ball Queen. With the aid of ‘reliable sources,’ the Pi Phis came out of rush with nineteen things to brag about. RIGHT FOX!!! As the pledges sang, “Mary Sue we love you, and Panhel sang to the tune of three costly, second-semester pledges, our winter party faded slowly into the drawing board. But, Pi Phis had been, seen at the best places— from the Cales- burg Club to the Gizmo... Sigma Nu Sigma Nu made this year when they grabbed their best pledge class in at least four years. Starting with Homecoming and ending at the “White Rose” Spring Formal, the chapter has seen its duty. Before Rush, the Brothers showed their profound interest in a common hobby: they put together a float similar to “Snoopy, and not only did they win the Homecoming float trophy, they had their fame spread across the (midwestern) nation by the Chicago Tribune. Another secret project of the chapter, with some assistance from the faculty, was the grade average. It is the best we have had in many, many years. The pledges have brought much fresh blood into the house, thus compensating for the gallons which are honored by the Blood Drive trophy. By filling out the intramural teams, the freshmen made possible the swimming and Scabbard and Blade © Turkey Shoot” trophies. A sheety Winter Party was put up by the generous pledges who also permit the “activities to take it down.” Rounding out the year, we must note the chapters interest in the arts. The the- ater(s) has (have) been the scene of good performances by some talented brothers. This year has, without further “‘elobora- tion, been a good year for Delta Theta of Sigma Nu. Back row: D.
