HISTORY Due to circumstances beyond our control, this history will be lousy. It all started when we were born. This also was due to circumstances beyond our control. At the ages of five and six we became possessed with the sins and evils of the underworld. Then we learned, as all criminalslearn, 'Crime Doesn't Pay.n WDog Daysn Dawes and VRugged Rat Richeson and their gang, which was composed of their gun molls, Blondie Peery, Sue Richeson, alias Peroxide Sal, and Half-Nelson Nichols were sent up for twelve years Ru'putting slugs in bubble gum machines, robbing the cradle, and trans- porting stolen tricycles over the county line. All this occurred in the year l939. We were assigned cell block one. James Zink, alias the UFat Boyn wasn't caught by the groping hand of the truant officer until a half year later. Half- Nelson Nichols was sent cross country to Utah. Atwell nThe Brainn was transferred here from St. Louis. He was sent up for breach of promise. Corbett, transferred from the Wood- land County Jail, was sent here for letting air out of trac- tor tires. After one year, Atwell was sent out on good be- havior to the county jail at Pleasant Prarie and served a term of three years because he tried to tell the jailkeepers how to run things. He returned to the WBig Housen in his seventh year of prison. Gentle Judd and Sleepy Jacobs were sent to the WBig Housen from the Brushville County Jail. In the year of our Lord l9h7,we had begun to run things pretty well in the WBig Houseng so we decided that we would initiate new mugs into the mob. The new additions and their crimes are as follows: Crash Miller and Runt Foster sent up for putting aspirins in cokes and selling the pro- duct for genuine home brewg Dictionary Allen, sent up for trapping mice without a license, Little Red Bailey, sent up for spitting in the cue chalk, Half-Nelson Nichols returned this year for selling flea powder for Madame You Need Glass- es Face Powderg nMoltyW Parrott, nBaby Facen Weikal, and UShiftyn Schubert, for licking the mucilage off the post- age stamps in the post office. Then came our eleventh year on the rock pile. We had a welcome addition: a great badmt- ball and square-dancing star joined the mob. He was sent up for perjury. fGet it?J Soon our twelfth year will be up Boy, will that be nice! They say the weather is finecntdde. 30
