X0 A typical scene at speech contest is this one as the contestants view the score sheets, posted after each round. A first gives a student a great thrill especially in district, zone, or state contests. Sports hold a prominent place on the school calendar but with the enjoyment comes hard work. ln the picture are Ronny Ballenger, Danny Vaughn, and Laddie Roland practicing basketball. Early spring me ans new designs and the home ec. department surely does its share to introduce them to the community. One of the first events all the student par- ticipate in is the coke day. On a hot day the pupils enjoy a coke, compliments of the Coca-Cola Company. Next on our school calendar are the Iowa tests for the freshman and juniors. Two full days are spent by these students taking tests of various types. In the picture are Carolyn Jessup, Sudy Beavers, Leo Ware, and Phil Flack. At various times convocations are held for the student body. The speech department has charge of these programs. In the picture Lana Ewing is presiding over the Thanksgiving Convocation. One of the main activities at Christmas time is the window painting contest. Situ- dents in the art classes paint various win- dows in the building. These are then judged and the winners are awarded a prize. In the pictures Miss McKinney, the instructor, congratulates this year's winners, Doug Fer- guson, Paul O'Mally, Phil Flack, Jim Mun- den. FIRST ROW, Jim Sharp and James r. S walke The Galaxy dance was a highlight of the events early on the school calendar. This was given as a finale to the yearbook sub- scription drive which was a gre at success. The total number of yearbooks sold was 583. In the picture are the Galaxy king and queen and their court.
