JOURNEY ACROSS THE BAY TO THE STUDENT BODY In the f vll of 1951 a group of travelers, S1Xty m number, boarded that gallant old sh1p,'Ihe K H S The voyage was to last four years, and at the begmnmg we were just a httle ner vous, xf not scared, as we embarked upon th1s Journey Soon, we began domg thmgs together and by the t1me we reached the end of the fzrst year, we were umted as one class The admlral that year was Mr john Colbert Om' captam was Junior Peacock and the frrst mate was Don Bundy Keeper of the log was Lmda Forst, and purser was Carolyn Sue Brammer Carl Leaser was om' representatlve ln the councll of The K H S As we saxled mto our second year, we again elected jumor Peacock as our captam under the admlrallty of Mr john Colbert joan Sharp was fxrst mate and keeper of the log was Ga11l.easer Our purser was 11m Smlth and our representatlve to the councxl of The K H S that year was Don Bundy We set our salls rn the dxrectlon of ra1s1ng money for the prom the following year By workzmg together with one goal m mmd, our class became more closely kurt By the tlme we had reached our thxrd year at sea we had mcreased our speed by begmnmg many new and challenglng projects At the end of the year, we ran xnto rough waters and stormy seas, for Operat1on Prom ' could be seen just beyond the honzon Wxth the co operatron of all hands aboard and under the able leaderslup of our new captam, Larry Welsh, and the fxrst mate, 1111113 Peacock, calm waters were soon a proached and our cloud had a sllver lmmg smce our prom, wzth ns theme, Penthouse Serenade, ' was a huge success Other leaders that year were keeper of the log, Carol jean Smlth, pmser, jzm Smlth, and representatlve to The K H, S council was Don Bundy We had a new admxral for that year Miss Marcia jane Cox Now, our class has come to the end of IB voyage We have saxled rough, stormy waters and calm, qulet waters Thu year we had a new admiral, Mrs Margaret Sxmons Our captain was agam jumor Peacock wmth Larry Welsh as first mate Keeper of the log was Gall Leaser, and Llnda Forst was purser john Craft was elected to rep resent us m The K I-I S Conmcxl In the fxnallnes of our last year, we began to think back over our voyage All dmmg the last few months of sending mvltatxons, practlcmg for Baccalaureate and Commencement and attendmg prom, whlch was given m om' honor, we scarcely had time to reahze that om' journey across the bay would soon be ended We have stood at the helm of The K H S for four years She has served us well and prepared us for our next voyage Now, we are ready to turn her over to the classes below us It IS wlth a certaxn amount of sadness that we clean out our lockers turn rn our books, and march off the shxp to the strarns of Pomp and Clrcumstance We reahze now We have crossed the bay the ocean hes before us We ask of those who w1ll gmde The K H S after us, that they w1ll guide her well and mamtam the loyalty that has been the tradition As we set out on our next voyage, the Voyage of Llfe, we look back fondly at The K H S , lyxng at anchor, and to those who will guzde her through the years ahead To our fnends whom we leave behmd, and to each other as we go our separate w ys, we say, ' Bon Voyage ' THE SENIOR CLASS or 1956 14 L' 1 . ! . . . . . .. . . 9 D ... . 0 . ! . . , .
