Class History The '49ers started on their long trip forward in the year 1937. Their first step in the journey was guided by Mrs. Ross. She started about 36 stu- dents, ten of which have completed their twelve years at Klondike. They are Barbara Magart, Lois Morehouse, Eleanor Rawles, June Trost, Jean Sheets, Ruth Golden, Donald Taylor, Donald Kinzer, William Crider, and Shirley Redding. As we advanced to the second year of our toilsome search for knowledge, Miss Beutler urged us helpfully along. Donald Kinzer left our class at the end of that year. Although we met many hard problems along the highway to suc- cess, several of which were the multiplication tables and learning how to tell time, we enjoyed being in the third grade under the direction of Miss Bone. Then came the fourth grade, with the supervision of Miss Ruth lakes. That year we conquered the division tables. At this time, Albert Hainje and Barbara Cole joined our great class. Mrs. Harriman was the privileged person who taught us in the fifth grade. Donald Kinzer again joined our class. ln our last year of grammar school, a little lady by the name of Miss Frisbee helped us continue our education and prepared us for the long trip up the stairs. We had one addition to our class that year, Albert Maxwell. After our climb up the two flight of stairs, we reached the seventh grade, with Mr. Shirley as our sponsor. That year we had two new members, Joan Misner and Dorthy Kaufman. We selected class officers for the first time. They were Jack White, President: June Trost, Vice-Presidentg Eleanor Rawles, Secretary, Dick Weathers, Treasureriand Margaret Bell, Reporter. We also enjoyed our first class parties, at Patty Casey's home and at the school house. We continued on to the eighth grade, with Mr. Shirley again as our sponsor. Our class officers that year were Bill Crider, Presidentg Joan Misner, Vice- President and Lois Morehouse, Secretary-Treasurer. We were very proud to be the first eighth-grade class to have its graduation exercises with the Seniors. This was a very enjoyable moment for all of us. Then we finally became freshmen in high school. Just by luck we escaped initiation. Mrs. Smith was our sponsor and these were the class officers: Pres- ident, L0iS M0r8h0uS8SVice-President, Don Taylorg Sec retary-Treasurer, Joan Misner:Reporter, June Trost. Donald Kinzer again joined our class, having left after we completed the seventh grade. Bill Buck also became a member of our class. When we were sophomores, we began our money-making campaign by selling magazine subscriptions under the direction of our sponsor, Miss Gerhardt. We were a complete success at thisf ln March of that year, George Miller joined us The class officers were Joan Misner, President, Donald Taylor, Vice-Presidentg Shirley Redding, Secretaryg Lois Morehouse,Treasurer: and Jean Sheets, Reporter Along came our junior year, with more efforts to make money. Our play, The Nutt Family , was presented very successfully, and candy and ice cream sales brought in extra cash. Everyone had a good time at the Junior-Senior Prom at Lincoln Lodge, that spring. Our sponsor was Mrs. Betty Ray, and the officers were Walter Hilt, President, Shirley Redding,Vige-President, Joan Misner, Sec- retaryg Barbara Magart,Treasurerg June Trost, Student Council: George Miller, Athletic Associatong and Don Taylor, Reporter, ll
