“Klondike School Wabash Township maintained a small-school system from the organization of the first school in the old log school houses, 94 years before reaching the consol- idated stage. The Indiana pioneer and writer of early local history, Sanford Cox, taught the first school in the township in 1832. The township was dotted with one room schools as time went on. One of them was known as Iacob's Temple and it flourished years ago, located at a point known as Higley Corner on Cherry Lane. When Wabash Township consolidated at Klondike, the following schools were absorbed: Octagon, Hebron, Quiatenon, Grandview, Castor, and No. 10. A little before this, there had been other schools known as Fox Den, Cason, Wea View, and Union, but they had been closed. Until 1926, Wabash Township provided for 6 separate schools and hired 10 teachers. The high school pupils were sent to the city schools, with tuition paid by the township. With the consolidation, Wabash Township maintains one modern two story fireproof building at Klondike, hires 17 teachers and has its own high school. It ranks among the largest consolidated schools in Tippecanoe County.
