They were as follows: Fred Arnold, Roger Bachman, Carol Bridges, Lois Heginger, Douglas Jones, Dennis Haefner, Jim Karsjens, Robert Larson, David Waddingham, and Warren Terhufen. Our teacher was Miss Bugh and Mr. Kingery was our superintendent. ln our primary year we did mostly coloring and playing. On May 16th, our school picnic was held and we were all looking forward to our second year of school. Our first grade year began on September 4, 1944. This year we had 12 students in our class. Bonnie Mace joined us at the beginning of the year and Shirley Barz came about the sixth week of school. Evidently Miss Bugh thought we were a pretty good class because she stuck with us during our first grade too. All we can remember about this year is we had to take naps on our rugs. We also got our first reading books. We really thought we were big because we could read. Thus ended our second year of school. On September 3, 1945 we began second grade with a new teacher, Miss Halfwassen. We also had two new pupils in our class, Margaret Haefner and lone Rosendahl. One of the highlights of this year was treats we received when someone had a birthday. On May 16th, our school picnic was held and that much loved summer vacation began. We entered third grade on September 2, 1946 in a new room with a new teacher, Miss Heinrich. We gained five new students: Paul Gilpin, Lyle Heginger, Raymond Helps, Adeline Medause, and Ray Jennings, who came after six weeks. We also lost Jim Karsjens and Bob Larson. This year we were in an operetta called The Obliging Clock. The Students who turned in their dental cards go to march in a health parade at Britt. The annual picnic was on May 25 and we were ready for the fourth grade. The 1947-1948 school year began on September 2, with 16 students and a new teacher, Miss Tanner. Paul Gilpin left our class this year and Marlys Marshall joined us. This year we took part in the operetta Lazy Town. On May 21 we received our report cards and advanced to fifth grade. On August 30, 1948 we began school again. By now we certainly had a habit of getting a new teacher each year. Mrs. Schlawin was our teacher this year. Raymond Helps left our class and the sixth week of school Gracka Gerardi came. One of the out- standing things we did this year was to make booths for an exhibit. Each one of us had a booth representing a different state of the Union. This year we began attended the health parade. The year was over with our picnic on May 20th. On August 29, 1949 we re-entered school as sixth graders. We gained six new students Robert Aarons, Kay Burk, JoEllen Clabaugh, Beverly DeMerritt, Kenley Mannetter, and Marvin Sandry. We also lost four students: Lyle Heginger, Ray Jennings, Marlys Mar- shall, and Adeline Medause. This year we made .Mr. Webster Dictionaries and a scene of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We completed our sixth grade year with our usual annual picnic. . A On Auguat 28, 1950, we entered seventh grade. We had an enrollment of nineteen students. Kay Burk and Marvin Sandry were not with us at the beginning of the year and Kenley Mannetter left us after six weeks. The new students were Donald Ausborn, Herman Goll, Donald Kramer, and Norma Draves. This year our class put on the play, Bang Goes Christmas. It was an hour play and we enjoyed it very much. Mr. Beenken was our teacher until January, when he was drafted, after that Mr. Dremmel was our teacher. This year we got to play basketball on the junior high team. Both the boys and the girls won trophies in the county tournament. The girls played Hayfield and won first place and the boys played Garner and won second place. School ended on May 23rd and our last and final year in grade school was approaching. August 27, 1951 began our eighth grade year. This year we didn't lose any students and we didn't gain any. Our room was upstairs with the high school, and Mr. Juhl was our teacher. One of the things we can remember about this year is the lunch we brought Page Sponsor: EICHORN CORNER STORE 'I4 every other Friday. We appointed different ones to bring cake and cookies and we each brought our own pop. Another thing we did was to tour Mason City. The year finally end- ed with a picnic and we were about to enter our first year of high school. In the fall of 1952, on September 2nd, we became trembling freshmen in K. H. S. This year 24 students made up our class: Donald Ausborn, Roger Bachman, Fred Arnold, Shirley Barz, Carol Bridges, Leila Anderson, Jo Ellen Clabaugh, Dennis Haefner, Mar- garet Haefner, Lois Heginger, Beverly DeMerritt, Douglas Jones, Ione Resendahl, Warren Terhufen, David Waddingham, Marcia Watne, Norma Draves, Donald Kramer, Gerry Kast- ler, Herman Goll, Gracka Gerardi, Ruth Pringnitz, Marvin Michelson, and Anita Katter. Our class president was Gracka Gerardi. Our first big event as freshmen was initiation. All the girls had to have their hair in twenty pigtails, the boys parted their's down the middle, and we all wore various costumes. That evening we each had to perform our little stunts with Mr. Cappon as master of ceremonies. The next big event was the Junior- Senior Banquet. Five boys and five girls were chosen to serve and Ruth played the piano. Our picnic was held and our first year of high school was over. On August 31, 1953, we entered the school building as Sophomores. We lost two students this year: Gerry Kastler and Douglas Jones. This year our basketball boys really went places. They got to sub-state for the second time in the history of Klemme. We played Dinsdale in the first round of the tournament and lost. We didn't have a girls team this year as not enough girls went out. Our president this year was Shirley Barz. In Biology, our class ventured to Woodward. This was a dangerous place for our class. . . we had a hard time getting them all back. Thus ended our Sophomore year and we ad- vanced to Juniors. On August 29th we started as Juniors with only two more years left. Beverly DeMerritt left and Maynard Weisbrod joined us, the second semester Norma Draves left us and Larry Wessels came. This was one of our biggest years. First was the class play, Janey's One-Track Mind. The next thing was our class rings. This event nearly broke us all up in business. The last thing was our banquet. The theme was An Evening in Paris. We were all very proud of our work. Our class president this year was Denny Haefner. We didn't have a picnic this year and school ended on May 20th. Our last year was approaching. On August 29th we began our last and final yaar with 22 students, eleven boys and eleven girls. This year proved to be both exciting and expensive. First off we ordered our announcements and thank you cards. Then on October 7th we ventured to Mason City to have our graduation pictures taken. Mr. Crawford accompanied us. Miss Beardsley directed our class play, Spooks and Spasms, which was held on the 17th of April. The theme of the Junior-Senior Banquet, which was held on the 28th of April, was Cherries In The Snow which the Juniors presented very well. We all enjoyed a very delicious meal. On April 20th we rose bright and early tabout 4:30l and set out on skip day. We went to Minneapolis and toured some of the industries. In the evening we went to see Cinerama after which we indulged in a big meal. Baccalaureate was held on May 20th and Commencement on May 22nd, Our speaker was Mr. Stroh. Thus ended our last year to- gether at K. H. S. BEFORE! !tFr0nt Row, Kindergartenl AFTER! ! Page Sponsor: SWANSON'S HATCHERY 15 CLASS PIWPHECY On May 15, 1966, we embarked on a world wide tour. As we boarded the airplane the stewardess came toward us and offered to show us to our seats. Much to our aston- ishment we found that the stewardess was none other than Margaret Haefner. We had the most wonderful plane ride and on May 16, 1966 we landed in Paris, France. Next we hunted for an interpreter, who turned out to be Donald Kramer. We had a very ex- citing time that evening, French style, you know. We went to a large hotel and asked for a room. After the bell boy had carried our bags to our room, he turned and asked us if that was all. Well, if it wasn't Dave Waddingham. Later that night we had a real celebration. The next day we went down to the Fashion Shop to see the new styles. We watched two of the models for nearly an hour before we recognized them. When we did, we just about fell through the floor. They were Carol Bridges and Shirley Barz. Our next stop was Pisa, Italy. Here we saw the Leaning Tower. As we wished to go on a tour of this part of Italy, we asked for and got a guide. When our guide said, The first place on the list is a cathedral, we recognized the voice and turned to get a better look at him. Our suspicions were confirmed, as our guide was none other than Marvin Michelson. He took us on a very interesting tour, and that evening he took us to a fine restaurant where we were served lots of delicious Italian food. There were several good musicians playing in the band. It finally dawned on us who the trumpet player was. You guessed it, that musician was Fred Arnold. Spain was the next country we visited. Of course, we attended a bull fight. One of the bullfighters was very brave and daring, and his bold stunts seemed to remind us of a fellow classmate. We thought and thought, and came to the most frightening con- clusion. He was another classmate of ours, Denny Haefner. Next on our itinerary was the country of Egypt. The first thing we did upon ar- riving was to join a camel caravan, just to see what that type of travel was like. Ima- gine our surprise when Donald Ausborn said, Okay folks, it'S about time to turn around and go back if we aren't going to spend the night on the desert. Australia, where we visited Ione Rosendahl's beet ranch tThe owner was allergic to animalsl was a very interesting place. On board the steamer which we took from Australia to Japan were about a hundred American soldiers. When a Captain bellowed, Attention, we realized that we were listening to and looking at Maynard Weisbrod of the U. S. Army. Now for the most interesting stop of all. Hawaii! ! ! We certainly enjoyed watching the beautiful hula girls dance. After watching them for a while, we noticed one that looked familiar. Was it? ? Could it be? ? 7 Believe it or not, it was Ruth Pringnitzl I Finally we headed back to the United States. Home, sweet home, at last! l ! We stopped in California for a few days of sight-seeing. We went through Hollywood where we discovered that Warren Terhufen was a very famous playwright. From there we went on to Reno, Nevada. When we arrived, we had no idea that Larry Wessels was one of the smartest gamblers in Reno, but we found out tthe hard wayl. We got into a card game with him! ! ! Next we were off to New Mexico. Our first stop was at Albuquerque where we went to a rodeo. In a clown act were one big and three little clowns which we found so inter- esting that we went behind the scenes after the show. And no wonder we were attracted to them--they were Roger Bachman with three of his five children. Page Sponsor . . G. W. KLUCKHOHN Gt SONS 16 Coming home, wt- stopped at some oil wells in Oklahoma, just to satisfy our curi- osity about them, Mart-ia! Iii-ila! Anita! I I Startled that someone should know our names, we turned and looked to see who it could have been yelling at us. We saw .To lillen Clahaugh and Lois lleginger with their husbands and children. They were out Chet-king on their two dozen oil wells. Boy, did they ever throw a party. At last, hack in Klomme! ! We went into the only cafe in town to get a bite to eat. The waitress who served us was Gracka Gerardi, one of the few of our classmates who had remained faithful to the old home town. After we had gotten done eating, gahbing about old times, and telling of our travels, we went outside and started walking down thc street to our rar when, whom should we meet Coming toward us with his wife and ten children hut Ilerman Goll. After talking with Herman for a while, the three of us left for our homes near Klemmr.
