Are these the latest lists of absentees? asks Phyllis McLin of Mrs. Todd. Listening to girls' problems and giving advice is perhaps the most important duty of the deans. They also take care of absences, consult parents, and handle student teacher relations. Another im- portant function of the deans is being advisor to Girls' League, an organiza- tion which unites all the girls of K.U. in various activities. Two new teachers moved into the dean of girls office this year. Hazel Todd taught English at Fremont Junior High before becoming dean of girls at K.U. Starla Thomas has taught English at K.U. for several years before assuming the office of assistant dean of girls. 16 Mrs. Todd receives some valuable information over the telephone. Keeping the dean of girls' files in order is one of Mrs. Thomds's duties These files contain the schedules of every girl enrolled at K.U.

Mr. Scapple examines his schedule of activities for the day. nf Schzwl Many varied activities are performed by the dean of boys. The dean's office is always open for consultation of problems of all kinds. Broken lockers, lost articles, and per- sonal problems all find their way into the dean's office. Conferences, supervised by the dean's office, between students, teachers, and parents often lead to better relations between the school and the home. Taking care of absenteeism and the writing of per- mits also occupies a large part ofthe dean's time. The general supervision of Boys' Alliance is also directed from the dean's office, This organization provides books and lunches for students who are unable to obtain these necessities for themselves. Giving advice to boys is a frequent occurrence for assistant cleans Dutch French and Glenn Terriere. i7
