The Army's loss was education's gain when Klamath Falls School Superintendent Arnold Gra- lapp chose school teaching as a profession instead of the military service. First Lieutenant was his title when he resigned his commission and returned to civilian life. The lure of gold mines then took him to Alaska. When the mining of gold declined, he returned to the United States and in 1921, entered the field of education. In Washington and Oregon he taught high school for several years. He was superintendent in LaGrande six years before coming to Klamath Falls in 1941 to take over the principalship at K. U. The following year he became the super- intendent of all the city public schools and has been holder of that job since then. Not only the schools but also the city has benefited by his services. I-le is able to witness the beauty and learn about the industries of his county. One of the beautiful attractions of Klamath County is Crater Lake. The beauty of this lake is breathtaking to all who see it, whether they are seeing it for the first or fiftieth time. Situated high in the Cascades, this lake offers great recreational opportunities both summer and winter. 7
